The house next to the local infant/junior school is always for sale...has a playing field between it and the school. Re parking...cars use both sides of the road so traffic at a standstill, they also use carparks at the local hospital(free parking) and the church grounds. One driver even refused to move for a funeral!!!!

Personally, I wouldn't, because I work from home and the noise and the mad mothers twice a day would drive me insane (nearly there already obviously).

The noise of children playing wouldn't bother me - what would is the fact that the gate is nearby means that you'll constantly end up with cars parked across your drive because they won't walk their darlings more than 50yards.

I lived opposite a largish secondary school for years (my parents still do).

Working normal hours it doesn't really affect you much. Obviously there are issues related to specific locations, but I'd probably be happy to do it again.

I live at the rear of a (secondary) school, and I have to say, the kids are always polite, always stop to let me on/off the drive and always say good morning (I'm a Cllr, and used to teach at the school, so some of the older ones/younger siblings still know me). The parents 'drop and go' in the mornings.

I've been here for 6 years in March, and have to say we've not had a problem with parking/rudeness/noise yet, and I live in the road that leads onto the gym.

    I've been Money Tipped!
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the effect of the extra car exhaust fumes and music/radio in cars when children are dropped off and collected. We used to live near a garage and we were surprised by how many people left their engines running and radio's on loud when the 'popped in' to collect a pint of milk. In the summer with windows open this might be an aggravating factor depending on how close the house is to the road.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

If you have children yourself some day you would be ideally placed to register as a child minder. You could be very much in demand for the hours before and after school

  • People having fun? Can't be having any of that. Down with PARTIES!

I'm not talking about kids parties, I'm talking adult parties. Load music, drunken behaviour and lots of shouting. Think the school should take into consideration that their school is in a VERY residential area, with the school hall right on the road side. If we purchased a property next to a pub or club then this is to be expected, but we haven't!

Have you found out if the school rent out their hall in the evenings? The school by my friend has aerobic classes most nights and the music is very loud in the summer as they have all the school hall windows open. So it might not be noisy just during the day time

Until about a year ago I lived opposite a primary school. The school has now relocated to a new site and I miss seeing the kids playing. It never caused me any problems but my road is a no through road for cars and has restricted residential parking only. Most parents walked the kids to school. I wouldn't want be that close to a secondary school.
When i was deciding whether to buy (in 2005) the presence of the school didn't cause me any problems.
