Don't worry BritRael, I know how you intended it and I was being a bit tongue in cheek too. I stand by that the double glazing would partially help with this problem, and also with others too. Opening the windows at the back of the house is also a compromise solution.

Hi all, I didn't realise I'd had all these responses in the last few days!

What I've decided to do is speak to the Head and ask them to move the smokers ashtray bin away from my house and onto the other side of the school driveway. That will put it approx 25 ft away from the house, rather than 5ft where it is now. And I'll see after that what difference it makes. I have a few weeks before term starts so I'll let you know how it goes.

faerie~spangles - I have had a few good daydreams of putting stink bombs out, lol! I wouldn't put it past me but am going to try all other avenues first!

Quick update... I phoned the head, she was very understanding and they've moved the cig box further away and everyone has been told not to stand outside my house. It's made a massive difference and I'm very happy with the outcome! Glad I didn't have to take the bucket of water approach!

just a word of warning , if you complain to the council this will be logged so if you decide to sell this should be flagged up by any buyers solicitors in their searches ,
my in laws were about to buy a house , at the last minute their solicitor flagged up that they had complained to the council on numerous occasions about their house being vandalised by people from nearby housing association properties , needless to say , my in laws pulled out fairly sharpish , and the house to ages before it was sold

Thanks nickj, yes that had occured to me, which was why it was a last resort, thankfully I didn't have to go that far and it was all sorted with a pleasant phone call to the headteacher. :)

if only everything in life was that simple
  • I suggest a mixtape of

Wagner - Ride of the Valkries is best for Saturday morning doorstep washing. But for best effect, go for the first and last movements of the Ring Cycle. That'll scare everyone within a quarter mile.

    Aida

    A couple of requiem masses

    A bit of death metal

    Brotherhood of Man

Anything from the playlist at G.A.Y.

    Barbara Streisand

    Music from Hello Dolly

Zank Evven Fer Leetle Gurrrrrlllllzzzzz from Gigi.

And finish off with the Dawn Patrol and I wanna Be Like You from Jungle Book, We Are Siamese and Everybody Wants To Be A Cat from Lady and the Tramp and then the Universe Song and Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life from Monty Python.

Sing all of it. Wearing curlers, green tinted moisturiser and carrying various strange and alarming implements every time you go past the window.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
