question please be honest

ok if you won a competition where the prize was win your choice of something from a particular collection and prices range from about £60 -£250
would you feel guilty or think its morally wrong to get something at the top end or would you go for something lower down the pricing scale?

It would depend on what you liked the most, then the price is irrelevant.

I would go for high-end but picking something I would actually like or that I could give as a gift :)

I wouldn't go for the dearest thing, as in, 'getting my money's worth'. I'd choose the item I genuinely wanted. Smaller scale, but the on the Ribena comp recently, I chose wellies that were £20 less than the actual top value offered. I think I'd feel bad obtaining a very expensive prize that I didn't want, just to eBay it or similar and make a profit. I only enter comps for things I or my family/friends would love to keep.

I'd choose whatever I really wanted at the time, have a good look through the collection and see what takes your fancy, not taking price into consideration.

I wouldnt feel guilty about getting something from the top end of the price range though.. If its what they are offering you then it isnt morally wrong :)

I don't comp much, but I wouldn't feel guilty about it, anyway. If the company don't want to give away the most expensive item, they shouldn't offer it as an option....

I would go for whatever I liked most, in the higher price range that I wouldn't normally consider.

I had £200 to spend on Converse from a prize recently, as I like converse I ended up paying £3 extra as I didn't want to miss out on any of my prize, 4 pairs of Converse trainers and 2 Converse bags for £3 was a steal :D

If there was nothing I really wanted, I'd go high-end and sell it. You won it, what you do with the prize is no one elses business IMO. :)

thanks , i agree ideally you should only enter comps where you want or know somoene who would want the prize and i will be honest in this instance i really want the prize , its something i have wanted to own of a particular brand for ages but i could get a cheaper item from the same brand hence my question but at the same time i really like this particular item even though its over £200 .

If we're talking morals, what are people's opinions on the 'big' winners (such as the ITV comps, luxury holidays, tens of thousands of pounds etc) then going on to enter more competitions after the initial win? I was discussing this with my comping friend last week, and we both agreed that if we won a large prize, we'd give up comping, as we'd consider that our allotted 'luck', if you will, and would rather less fortunate people had a chance to win something. I wouldn't want to claim more than I felt I deserved. Absolutely no offence meant to people who carry on comping! Just throwing it out there as I am interested in people's opinions.

Sorry if the op feels I hijacked their thread, but I do think it's a valid (related) point. :)
