5:2 diet

This does remind me of coming to a car mechanics forum and complaining that people seem obsessed with car mechanics! :rotfl:We are all different and some people find that weighing themselves and seeing it come down is a great motivator. There are other indicators of course - like fitting into smaller size clothes and just feeling better :T. But some people find it useful to weigh themselves - especially when embarking on a weight loss journey along with others.
Me I will probably weigh myself weekly. When I have got to where I am going, I can be a lot more laid back.
Yes some people obsess with the scales but that's their problem. I am not going to 'not weigh myself' because of that - in the same way that I am not about to give up alcohol because some peeps have a problem with it.

When you put it like that...“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Today I didn't feel overly hungry during the day, so saved all of my calories (other than Almond Breeze for coffee) for the evening meal.
I used my standard minestrone recipe, except I "sauteed" the onions in a cast iron pan without oil (instead of using 2 tablespoons oil), and omitted the pasta. Just as good as the original.
Almond Breeze - 150ml (for coffee) - 21 cal
Minestrone soup - 300 cal
500ml veg bouillon - 34 cal
1/2 tablespoon tomato puree - 6
18g red lentils - 55
22g onion - 9
1 clove garlic - 4
125g tomatoes - 26
22g carrots - 9
18g celery - 3
50g courgette - 8
25g potatoes - 18
20g cabbage - 4
15g mushrooms - 3
145g cannellini beans - 121
Watercress salad - 100 cal
35g watercress - 4 cal
35g sundried tomatoes - 71
15g olives - 25
Raspberries - 150g - 77 cal
TOTAL: 498 CALORIES

ThriftyFelicity, your menu is very helpful! Think i'll try that one next week, love minestrone
Still only just tipping my toe into 5:2, I'm on a combination of 6:1 and 16/8 at the moment.
Just wanted to say, for anyone finding 5:2 difficult, I'm doing the much easier 16/8 each day type and the results are still positive. I've been doing this for just over 3 weeks, and in that time I've had one three course restaurant meal a week, a few treats here and there, and maintained social drinking once a week and still lost 6.5lbs!
I'm really impressed because I'm not food obsessed, I'm making better choices because nothing is banned and I want nutrition first and foremost, I eat when I'm actually hungry (which is new) and it's been virtually painless. There has been some hunger between 14-16 hours when I first started, but now I don't notice it.
I did start out doing some toning exercises and that's slipped so I need to get back to that but essentially the only change has been that I miss breakfast and don't eat after 8pm. No one has even noticed I'm on a diet which is great.
I feel a lot better overall for such a small change.
Anyone know when the fat burning period during a fast is it's peak?Debt free (finally) and saving a deposit for my first home.0 -

I guess we are all different. I had no idea what 16:8 was till I worked out this is what I have been doing that got me into the state I'm in
.
Nor was I eating huge calorific meals:( or snacking inbetween.
But I'm over 60 and maybe my metabolism is just chugging along.0 -
I've been reading this thread with great interest. Like many people, I decided to give 5:2 fasting a go after seeing the Horizon programme. This was mainly for the expected health benefits, and I'm not sure how to measure the results after the first month, except that I feel well. I'm not overweight but I did have a bulgy tummy, like many women of my age (early 60s). I'm delighted to report that I have lost most of my tummy and can fit into smaller clothes again, and I've gained confidence that I look shapely.
My only problem is that I don't want to lose any more weight. Do I just try to eat more on the 5 days? I find this quite difficult, unless it's chocolate! I've used the BMR calculator and I reckon I need 1750 calories per day, but I'm not keen on recording everything I eat. Any suggestions?Landgirl0 -

Michael Mosely had the same problem that he didn't want to lose any more weight, so he is now doing 6:1, just one day a week of "fasting".R.I.P. Bart. The best cat there ever was. :sad:0 -
I wnet over on Saturday but by a tiny amount same as yourself, 11 Calories, but as I did a fitness class I would still have had a calorie deficit. I am counting it anyway.
