in Water bills
Hi
Please can anyone help or advise. I have recently found out that my water meter has stopped working I have informed anglia water who have replaced it with a new meter. I am now concerned as they have informed me that they will re calculate my water usage for the last 18months on the next 6monthly meter reading. How can they bill me for water they don't know I have used? I could be overcharged or even uncharged. Surely you can't bill someone for something based on a estimate. Can I refuse to pay?
Please help

yes they will work it out on you consumption as that is the only way to do it, im sure they can only go back 12 months tho on domestic supplys unless this has changed recently0

It's their mistake - their meter isn't working - ask them to prove that you've been using the water - they cannot - you just haven't washed for a year - they won't pursue this as in a court it would never be proved that you weren't staying with friends for the past 12 months. Perhaps your shower is broken and you have to use the one at the gym - you don't have a washing machine as they are new-fangled technology....
Speak to customer services - then speak to someone senior if no joy - you will win this if you don't give in.
Good luck!Tesco is my second home:j0 -
Hi. That doesn't sound entirely unfair although I would argue with CS that summer useage will be higher so they should base it on a years useage. If you start saving water now you could be quids in by the end of it.
Although if you want to get tough I think SharkMark is probably right if you have the will power you could argue them down. Although it does seem a bit naughty not to pay anything if you have been using it normally.0 -
Should I contact them now and argue it or wait 6 months for the bill to come through the letter box.:T
Thanks for all your comments0 -
Sort it out now dont leave it longer, you can get them to base your bill on a 7day check read if you ask, they might allow you to provide the readings if not a meter reader will do it 7 days apart0

You have the upper hand on this one ! You don't have to pay for any water, whether it's shown on your meter or not.
Water companies are NOT allowed to disconnect your water supply for any reason, including non payment of bills.
I would (seriously !) write to them and say that according to their meter you have used no water, therefore you owe them nothing !0 -
