Diets don't work, because when people hit their target weight more often or not they start adding the junk treats back in. If you continually restrict your calorie intake in any case, your body adapts and you plateau.

Losing the weight, improving your health and maintaining that is not easy, it takes willpower. It means cutting back drastically on junk food like takeaways, processed food and confectionery. Drinking water and tea not fizzy drinks.

I started low carbing in 2010 to try to improve my diabetes and starting going organic in March. In May I achieved normal blood glucose and as a side benefit I've gone from size 22 to size 14 so far and have lost SEVEN inches off my waist since December. More importantly all my health markers are normal or better.

It's not rocket science but it does take willpower. If you go into it wanting to eat full of nothing diet bars and ready meals they will never help you long term. Because if all these diet foods worked, people wouldn't be doing diet after diet and making manufacturers billions.
  • If you really want to go down the psychological route as to why you are overeating in the first place then Beyond Chocolate is a good start.
Not an easy route and losing weight is not the main focus, but tackles the important bits.
They have a website for more ideas, suport and courses.

Ok, I will crack out the Shred again - the most I did with that was 10 days but I will work doubly hard for the 30 days!! I know I need to ditch the pop - drink far too much of it - always the 'diet' kind but still. Anyone else feel bloated when they DON'T drink it? xxx

NO, I don't find that. In fact, after the first 10 days of giving it up, I realised I was no longer burping and farting all the time (sorry for TMI but I believe it's more helpful to be open and honest about these things). That was a vast improvement for me. And a big relief for my OH! :rotfl:

You don't need to work doubly hard at the 30 DS, you just need to stick with it. You can have the odd rest day here and there, but you need to get straight back to it.

Thank you Mrs Boo Boo that's a great help - psychological issues are a big part of my rubbish diet I think :)

Edwardia, thanks for your advice, I would never eat diet junk (those rubbish grain bars as they usually have more cals in them than chocolate bars!) as for shakes and replacement meals - again I see them as ridiculous - you can't go out for a meal and order a shake etc!

What I want to do is change my taste buds and my mindset to make me like healthier food - and then make me want to choose healthier food over junk... as for taking fruit to work... I do... and then it goes mouldy because I still don't eat it!! xxx

Lol I know what you mean - I find if I try not to drink it then I get really bloated :/ luckily I don't get the wind so much lol

I mean work doubly hard at sticking to it! It's hard enough as it is! xxx

There is a certain amount of willpower required. In my case, it took quite a few intenal dialogues where I argued with myself about not giving in to junk, or laziness. You have to constantly remind yourself of your goal in the beginning. ie 'No, don't eat the chocolate. Eat the apple. The apple has less calories and far more nutrients and you want to be fit and healthy remember!' - that sort of thing.

Your taste buds will only adjust if you first adjust your eating habits. x

How long have you lasted in the past? A few days? A week? Or a few weeks? No judgement here, but just wondering if it is a symptom that will pass if you stick with it for longer (most likely).

OR, something else causes the bloating.

Thanks Euro, it's silly, I know what I have to do, I know what makes sense... it's the doing bit I just find incredibly hard!

If I was to dream big the Jess Ennis would be pretty awesome as a goal - but for now I just want to be a healthier me :) xxx

If you've signed up for a 5k run, have you considered doing the Couch to 5k programme? I've started it again after starting a few months ago and then giving up because it was just too cold and wet to motivate myself to start.

My other advice is not to go too hard at first by trying to change everything. Start gradually by reducing the amount of diet coke you drink or whatever and replacing one meal a day with something that's healthier. If you try and do everything at once then chances are you'll get fed up and quit.

    Good luck.
