Car insurance voided

They may well be able to trace the IP address or any email addresses used.
Direct Line wont be able to do that and wont have any financial interest in doing that as they cant achieve anything from it.Does the scammer pay the premium and recoup this (plus their "commission") from the client?
The individual pays a fee to the scammer directly. There is no commission. The individual pays the cheque to the insurer or direct debit just as they would if they DIY.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Direct Line (and other insurers) can do that with email addresses and IP addresses. I've seen it. But obviously, if the scammer's not paying the premium, then there are no bank accounts to check.0

The only I.P. address that DL would see would be from the Aggregator where the scammer got the quote from e.g. GoCompare etc. The email address will be the OP's not the scammers.
Forget about DL, this 'Broker' is a fraudster and as such should be reported to News International, sorry, I mean the Metropolitan Police

Hi, DL have sent me an email clarifying that I won't have to declare that my insurance was void to future insurers.
I have sent all info to DL about this git who scammed me. They have email address & bank acc details etc so will be able to track him hopefully.
I have also reported to FOS so they are looking into it too. He apparently paid a premium of £200 or im guessing deposit so that they can chase too with his details.
The !!!!!! clearly set it up with a different address where I was keeping car but not at my home address & then just submitted all the info either on line I'm guessing cos I don't recall seeing DL on comparison sites!
Such a scam artist & can't believe there are people who wud do such a thing! What goes around comes around so he will get his comeuppance soon!0 -

I would be careful on this point. Direct Line cannot speak for all other insurers in the market - it is not up to company Y to determine what company X would consider to be a material fact.0 -
If you struggle to get cheap cover I've found someone doing cheap cover. Oh hang on...0

The FOS will shortly come back to you and say there is nothing they can do.Such a scam artist & can't believe there are people who wud do such a thing!
They are everywhere. Most cold callers seems to be scams. Half the PPI phone calls are scams (as are at least half the complaints the PPI companies put in). You then have door callers who are frequently scams.
You need to be on guard nowadays. In cases of financial services, you can check the person/firm against the FSA register to see that they are real.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
