Car insurance voided

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I went to a broker for my car insurance & he duped me & a week before my insurance was due to run out with direct line, they contacted me to say that they had reason to believe my car was not registered at the address stated on the policy & therefore voided it.

It appears the broker had given an address which I know nothing about or affiliated with in anyway which is where l was apparently keeping the car overnight.

I received my documents at the time & looked at certification & took no notice of anything else as I believed it to be a legitimate document. Evidently details were incorrect & now I have to pay the price by having my car insurance voided due to a blunder made by my broker who seems to be tricking customers out of their money & clearly is a con! I'm so stressed at the thought of having my car insurance voided. I really don't know what to do.

You know you have to check the documents and alert for any inconsistences to be corrected. I suppose you could lodge a complaint.

If the broker made an error then the broker will put it right. You seem to be putting it down as a con but chances are it is a clerical error.

    What has the broker said?

I don't see how the broker has benefitted from this, so in what way has he swindled you?

You need to do anything you can to keep the policy that you have. You don't want a voided insurance policy.
If that means paying extra for the different address and paying an admin fee then so be it.

If you do have to pay then chase the broker for payment.

So in response to all your questions, Direct Line dont have brokers, you have to go via them direct to set up a policy. I have been duped because on I contacted this broker on the phone and arranged for this to be settled. The broker doesnt seem to be willing to help and has said that it was another colleague who dealt with it and is no longer available.

Direct Line recognise I have been duped and take note of this but due to the error of the address and it was my responsibilty to check they want to void it due to this. Seems so unfair when it wasnt even my fault as I would never give an address I dont know about. I have been paying insurance for 6 years and they can check this with previous policies as its always been same address which is where my car is registered.

The broker is obliged to sort this out for you! (How did you end up woth a DL policy from a broker?)

Get back to them and ask for a manager/proprietor!

Its not unfair, you had the chance to check the docs over and pick up on the fact the address was wrong and correct it at the time but you chose not too.

    Jim jams wont fit anymore!

The broker is refusing to sort anything out and I have been left with this blunder to sort out now! They wish to take no blame or part in this.

Yes, it is my responisibility to check all details are correct but I assumed through naivety that all was ok as everything has always been the same and correct previously!

I honestly dont know how I ended up with the documents from DL as the broker sorted it all out and I gave them my details.
