By my reckoning a life sentence is about 15 years, reduced by half for good behaviour. You pan has lasted several years so if it's less than seven years you've got a rock solid non-stick case.

    Good luck.
  • You got a Tefal to last more than one year?

    Well done.

Their cheap nowadays anyway, if you follow the rules for cleaning, No scourers, they last ages. Last post ridiculous mines lasted 6 years at least and still works pefictally.

Exactly, my experience with Tefal pans is that they last a year or two tops. I have had two or three tefal pans, and the coating has come off in no time, and no I do not use metal utensils. I use a plastic spatula. Now I wouldnt want one for free.

Never bothered to send them back, as the postage would probably cost a tenner. They know this though.

As the pan is more than 6 months old it is up to you to prove your case. To be honest, with the cost of even a good frying pan being what it is then I suspect you are much better off writing it off and be thankful that you got several years out of it than messing about trying to find someone suitably qualified to given an opinion on why the Teflon has degraded etc
  • Thanks for all the comments. It's dawning on me that Tefal products are not up to the job so maybe yes, the pan has come to the end of its life after (IMO) a short life of 3 years.

I agree, what exactly is the definition of a 'lifetime guarantee'. Personally I think it's longer than 3 years.

What I find so unbelievable is Tefal's lack of customer service. I can't get any contact details for anyone senior within the organisation to escalate this myself. I've not had any response from the CSS manager - whatever that title means. The Customer Services Manager is no longer responding to me. I can't find the name of the MD anywhere and I'm starting to feel that the whole ethos of the company is 'fob off the customer' - including their 'lifetime guarantee'.

This is a matter of principle for me but I'm starting to think it's going to be a big waste of time!

So, don't buy Tefal products because they are a company full of clandestine liars who have no regard for their customers. Oh, and their products are rubbish to boot! Make sure you tell all your friends too!!

I recently sent a Tefal pan (non stick wok) back with a fault on the base. (metal disk coming away)

I thought it may be my own fault as it may have overheated on the induction hob or I may have cooled the pan too quickly under a cold tap causing the pan to warp.

Tefal wrote back stating: The pan had evidence of, pan stacking, metal utensils and overheating.

They replaced the pan free of charge though.

Hi ivavoucher - Sounds like they just have a stock line of 'it must be pan stacking, metal utensils and overheating' - covering all the basics then?! Perhaps there is no 'Quality Department' - it's the receptionist who opens the packages who decides?! It's funny that they say it's not their fault and then send a new pan anyway. After they sent the report basically blaming you for the fault, did you go back to them or did they just send a new pan with no argument?

I've found that they last well if they are looked after.

My parents have had one for over ten years and it's still as good as the day they bought it (it was quite a cheap one too), they only use plastic utensils, only put it to soak in warm water for an hour tops and use a soft cloth to clean it and it's not showing any signs of needed replacement.

I on the other hand use plastic, wooden and metal utensils, put it to soak for too long, usually overnight, and OH often uses a scourer on them. I get two years at the most out of mine before they need replacing. I could change how I use them but I prefer metal and wooden utensils and doing the evening dishes in the morning so I'll just keep buying new ones (I tend to stick with cheap £5ish pans)
  • Hi

I work for a retailer who sell pans, with lifetime guarantees. Have you checked your guarantee? Some of ours the lifetime guarantee doesn't include the non stick - in small writing obviously.

We take stuff back on behalf of the companies sometimes so it is worth asking retailer.

I don't rate Tefal or any of the other brands you can buy on the high street. If you want quality pans, it's much better to visit a kitchen ware specialist and pay a bit more.

I've had my pans for 29 years and they're still going strong, they're not non stick though, they're stainless steel and cost me a small fortune !

You get what you pay for.
