  • This problem is what puts me off ever using ebay for buying or selling. I have never done so before so I think I will get ignored as a seller and problems should I find anything to buy.

I have had my boss at work list a couple of things for me as she sells her old clothes on the site and has good feedback. It gets messy working out costs and things that way though.

In practice, as long as you are reasonable and post items out securely, there is a minimum of fuss involved in most transactions. Even this issue is a bit of a non-problem, since the buyer has paid.

Selling is not for everyone, but there is no need to be paranoid - which is what buyer feedback generates on its own. I've made a considerable number of sales to both experienced and first-time users and have never really had a problem, even on expensive items like unwanted phone upgrades.

All you need to recognise is it is always a two-way process, and sellers take responsibility for the sale when they list, rather than when it ends with a winning, paying bidder. If you don't think people are entirely honest, or that an item is of particular value, or the system allows buyers to scam you with impunity, don't list anything. Buyers pay the money - they expect the items - and they have considerable rights over the sellers, who will benefit from the money if things go right but have to earn it.

Meanwhile, this is eBay Casualty, this is where everyone with a problem comes. Thousands, if not millions, of transactions take place every day without issue on either side.

What problem, it's been advertised, sold and paid for quickly. Give the poor buyer a chance!

    Agree with this entirely :T

Just make sure you send it to the address that Paypal say is safe. Only if the buyer starts asking you to send it elsewhere should you be concerned.

Use the one on the Paypal transaction page rather than anything on the eBay emails. Sometimes there is a mismatch, but seller protection applies to the transaction, not the account.

Have you set your selling preferences properly?

    UK buyers only?

Must have a credit card on file. Althought not 100% cover this will weed out some of the very dodgy ones and kids making accounts.

    Verified address?

  • Exactly the same thing happened to me. See my thread, it has a lot of useful info:

Just for your information, the payment was reversed two days later. Luckily I hadn't dispatched it by then.

Couple of things, use the Ebay email system to send a message saying "thanks...I've despatched a PS3 with serial # xxxxx and your Special Delivery tracking # is yyyy". That'll alert a scammer you know the serialz.

Also, as I've said before, Google Street View the delivery address to see how rough it looks.
