Hi all,
i have just moved into a new as a first time buyer @ the beginning of April.
To cut a long story short, the orginal electric cooker broke so i decided to get a new gas cooker installed.
For the month of June - July i received a bill of £141 for gas alone and £45 for electric. I have only had the Gas cooker for the last 2 weeks of the May billing month. And the boiler has been turned on hot water only (most of the time).
There is only me and my partner living in the house. I am out of the house Monday-Friday 7.30-18.00 working and my partner is home because she is a teacher. But isnt really using any gas.
I do have a gas fire but it hasnt been used once since we moved in.
This bill is for what i have used and not the previous house owner (supposedly). the previous owner was with British Gas i am now on the the blue price promise with EDF
Any help would be appreciated!!
thanks,
chris

Bills are not for £141 + £45. Bills (or statements) are for the energy consumed as measured by the meters and either correctly or (probably) incorrectly stated on the bill. To get meaningful help here you need to post the meter readings *exactly* as they appear your first bill, the most recent bill and what the meters read today.0 -
I've been told by EDF to record 7 days worth of readings and let them know.
up to now they are
Monday 6th - 7144.869
Tuesday 7th - 7146.494
After submitting my meter readings when i first joined them and an actual reading was taken i received a bill from EDF for £141 for gas alone & £45 for electric.0 -

What was your opening gas reading in April?604!0 -
The bill for April to May was with Britsh Gas while i was waiting for my provider to change to EDF, as the previous person was with BG.
yes my bill has the readings 31st May - 6780 02 August - 7143
i have just noticed this is a 2 month period however this was not the case before as EDF have now combined my gas and electric whereas before they were seperate.
since being with EDF i have paid
Electric -
23 May 2012 - 02 August 2012 = £140.26
Gas - 31st May 2012 - 02 August 2012 = £153.02
is it just me or does this seem unusually high 2 month period a total of £300?0 -

6780 was the gas meter reading EDF started with0 -
Are your bills based on meter readings or estimates? Your bill will tell you. If you're on direct debit, you'll also be building a balance now ready to carry you through the winter months when your usage is high. My monthly payments for example year round are £90 per month for a well insulated, modern heating system, two bed house. So £145 per month doesn't seem unreasonable, especially if they're estimating your usage.0

What were your readings when you moved in?
Have you ever given any actual readings to the suppliers?0 -

No no no:(. Energy is not sold by the pound, it is sold by the meter reading. Stop quoting £££s. That tells us nothing about the billing accuracy.0 -
the readings when i moved in were gas - 6776 electric - 5876
The readings are actual readings as i have submitted them. When you are paying £90 a month im guessing you are using less than this because in the winter months you'll use more and it will balance it self out.
My house is a 3 bed room well insulated house, only me and my partner live there and the heating has been turned off 90% of this billing time
EDF are saying i have used £150 per month for combined gas & elec in the summer months (so in winter i guess it will be higher than this)0
