If you had £1,000,000?

Options
If you had £1,000,000 how would you invest it to get the most out of it?

(Purely hypothetical situation! Just curious to see what others would do!)

    Totally agree with Kaya
I would clear all my debts, sell my house and move to South Africa, beautiful country, and they dont get ripped off like we do here...
  • i would go to the bank and ask to see it all in cash and takea photo before they put it back.cant imagine being debtfree and being able to go shopping and afford everything.re other posters,i like living in britain and am still proud of where i come from.when i see other places in the world and how people are suffering,i think we have it pretty good, especially judging by the amount of refugees(official or otherwise)who are desperate to live here, but thats my personal opinion.
People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

murder, kidnapping and rape is highest in the world there though.
My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.

I'd do the same but I'd also take it home for the night and have sex on it!

In all seriousness, I'd pay off the mortgage (£120k or so remaining) and move to Canada. Bank/invest what's left over and just keep working/living as normal.

Why all the eggs in one basket, particularly when the asset class you are chosing will in many parts of the uk produce a yield considerably less than a bog standard bank account?

Well in fact we'd probably all have to go on some kind of course about tax exemption etc. because in reality a million isn't really a huge amount. If you bunged it all in ICEsave or something similar, you'd only end up with approx. £45,000 per annum - which, let's face it is not exactly enough for high living.

And I'm afraid it wouldn't buy five houses near where I live in west London - one would be pushing it these days.
