Seems to be some consensus its the steepest road in the uk!
Went to wales a few week back for a wedding and to get there we had to go over a big hill though a small forest, driving through the forest you notice you cant see any roads, it then turns and drops big! If its bigger than that (guessing it is) i will kak myself!0 -

Great idea. I live in Carlisle myself so can confirm Wrynose pass is great!! watch for potholes though all over the lakes, I managed to break a wheel while trying to avoid some tourist in their oversized 4x4 who decided to randomly move towards my side of the road :-(.
I can recommend the B5299, This road is the back way from Carlisle to Keswick, so have a look and see if you can fit it into your itinerary. Takes you up some really steep hills, and a really nice open road with good sight lines, DON'T go too fast though, no fences and suicidal sheep aplenty along here. If heading from Carlisle you will get to a point where the road forks into two, follow the signs for Uldale and this will take you towards Keswick and Bassenthwaite Lake. I think you will then come accross signs for Keswick, follow those until you get to the A66, turn left for a shortwhile, then turn right onto Whinlatter Pass (B5292), then turn left onto the B5289, this is Honnister pass another nice bit, which eventually brings you into Keswick. I got many more if you want, just let me know :-)0 -
Santa Pod is the drag strip you might be thinking of near Milton Keynes...
Regarding the treasure hunt which I think is a cool idea, instead of asking them to pick up a note or item that you have placed there beforehand (which will mean a lot of setting up and time / expense) it might be a good idea to use the internet and pick out locations on route, with clues etc, and then use google streetview to identify things you want them to write down or photograph, everyone should be given a copy of the same road map to work from..... you could give everyone a book of photographs you want them to collect on their cameras, so they get a clue and photo, to get the points they have to photo the object in the clue.
This forum http://www.quest4treasure.co.uk/forum is sure to help you write some basic clues, tell them not to make it too difficult. I'd give them a list of your chosen destinations/photos and ask them to invent a clue for each one.
I'd also give a map ref starting point for each clue, so they can move onto the next clue if they have failed on one.
However as you want to enjoy it aswell, maybe you should ask them on the forum to do the clues for you entirely so you can join in, and have the answers in a sealed envelope.0
