Hi all!

Wondering if i could borrow some of your knowledge or experiences of drives in the british isles.

My friend has asked me to look into organising a 'topgear' style challenge for his stag do. Were looking at doing a buy a banger type rally. Teams of 3 about 12 of us. £300 max limit on car (think this should be doable, my motor only cost £200 just had to tax it!)

Was thinking we should be able to do a good 4-6 hrs drving a day over a fri, sat sun!

Ive got a rough idea of some of the challenges we could do (top trumps, actual mpg, photos with monuments/celebs, ya know the usual topgear type ones not trying to send the banger into space though)

Where im struggling a bit more is where to go!! Obviously i would like to try and avoid motorways and traffic jams so we can actually enjoy driving. Was thinking we should try and get to a run what you brung strip so we could add a bit to the challenges and i think theres one round milton keynes way. Other than that im struggling for 'good routes' so to speak.

So anyone know any awesome driving roads where you can take your time on the road and hopefully involve some sort of challenges (somewhere the cars will be tested). Also know its not the right forum for this bit but any advice on camping with a stag do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and sorry its long. Cheers for any input!!

p.s. know its not particularly serious or anything but would really appreciate some hints and ideas!

o to add were based round the north west, i know were traveling but awesome roads in the far north of scotland will be less doable or at least time restricted drving round them iykwim.

Well I could suggest a clockwise trip around the M25 with the first 3 to make it back to the starting junction gaining 15, 10 and 5 points respectively. A good couple of traffic jams will make that an interesting challenge as you'll all have to keep lane swapping etc.
  • This is a great idea. But Yeh, I wouldn't start driving until the afternoon due to drinking. Recipe for Breathalysers.

Yeah there will be a bit (quite a bit) of booze! Was thinking earliest starts about midday and was hoping in each group we would have a driver sensible enough to pace themselves and we could swap on each night. We'll probably be camping (tinnies and a few shots) so cant imagine were going to get paraletic but obviously were going to want to enjoy ourselves!

Its definately not a race!! So the speeding shouldnt be an issue. And like i said about the drinking would like to think 1 out of the 3 could stave off for 1 night and well take it in turns.

Think the biggest safety issue might be with the £300 cars!

Definate no no on that one sorry!

Dont like london (m25) at the best of times not gonna drive all the way down there so we can 'race' through traffic jams!! Was thinking more a nice/scenic/peaceful route. Somewhere were we could get a barbie out on the side of the road (is this allowed in the uk?!) and pace the journey!
