I know nothing about cars at all, Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
We want:
- 2nd hand car for between £5000 - £8000
- New as poss, with low mileage
- 5 doors
- Good boot space
- Cheep to insure, cheep to tax, won't drink petrol
- Reliable
- Don't really care if it looks ugly
- Not at all bothered about fancy gadgets
- Just need to fit the family in and drive from A to B as cheaply as possible

How big is the family? How many people and what ages?
Makes a big difference to what size car you want.

The honda civic 5 door are very reliable engine-wise...

Basically avoid french cars if you want it to last

Thanks for the suggestions, please keep them coming!
Our family currently consists of 2 adults and one baby, but plans are to add another wee one to the melting pot in the next 3-4 years. We'd like the car to last us at least that long.0 -
Do you do much motorway driving?0

Not much motorway driving - 200miles a month, maybe 300...
We use it mostly for driving about town and going to work. We do about 7000 miles a year0 -

I'd second a kia rio . Get one older than 1 year though, it will still have plenty of value to shed. Or if you want to push the boat, a kia ceed looks alreet.0
