Replacing door glass on a multifuel stove

Hello. I'd be grateful for any advice that forum members can offer on my question below:

I'm attempting to replace the old door glass on my multifuel stove. On this model (a Stovax Stockton 5) the glass is held in place by 4 clips (one at each corner), each of which is in turn secured by a screw. The problem is the screws won't budge. I've tried WD40, but it's like they're completely siezed. I don't want to completely knacker the screw heads, so I'm reluctant to get too medieval with them. Does anyone have any tips or advice they can offer on persuading stubborn screws to move? Any suggestions gratefully received.

WD40 is not really a lubricant, you would be better off with a proper penetrating oil or perhaps kerosene at a pinch. If the glass is already out due to breakage you could use an impact driver to move the screws. Alternatively you could try to tap the clips in an anti-clockwise direction to try to break the screws bond. If this all fails then it is gonna be a drill and tap job me thinks.

    Hope you win this one.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!
  • Many thanks for the reply. I'll give all of your suggestions a go before I resort to the drill option...
