What I am trying to say is that Facebook is perceived by the users as a reputable brand and they are allowing counterfeit companies to sell their wares and when the consumer finds out they will obviously assume their have some recourse through FB (note previous threads in Consumer Forum) and not realise they arent covered by FB and the like and have to realy on chargebacks and the like.

But is facebook a public service? Surely it's a private venture, funded by advertising.

Umm... Perhaps they shouldn't be allowed on the internet unsupervised then? I'd love to see a claim go through the courts for "you had an advert on your website and that company ripped me off! Its all your fault!". :rotfl:

Even if it was here where they give "advice" on products there is no comeback against MSE if the providing company fails to deliver!

(And yes, we do see the most amazing threads on Consumer Rights sometimes!)

I use FB PURITY to rid me of all those irritating ads FB insist we have. With the added bonus of not having to view their awful Timeline feature they insist we have.

No, no, no. From an online marketing point of view, timeline is so much better than the previous design. I can see that for personal profiles, it can be a bit annoying though!

I'm a fan of the timeline, too.

Anyone that has me on there can see:
    a) What I was upto a few years ago, which especially in the case of clients can be amazing for verifying who I am/my involvement with something; it makes it so much easier to find!
    b) Past statuses that I may not want people to see, however I've got around that one really easily by keeping albums open and hiding all previous posts when TL came out.

There are simple enough ways around such issues.

It doesn't quite delete your timeline, it merely hides it from view. Ergo those who prefer timeline would still see my timeline (whether or not I use it), even though I no longer have to see theirs or my own.

I never liked the timeline layout and much prefer the original format, which aside from Purity removing the ads, timeline view removal was a bonus to my preference. ;)
