Huh. Judging by some of these replies you would think they're being forced to use Facebook.

I can never understand why people will complain so frequently about a free website they don't have to use. If you don't like it, don't use it!
I'm not sure OP is complaining about Facebook advertising in general. If you master the art of reading threads properly before jumping in with both feet, you might have worked out the OP is complaining about a particular advertisement on FB.

I have no objection to the constant advertising I get on my paid for digital television package, but might object if they started advertising hardcore pornography or scam companies.

However, solving the issue of advertising on a free site like Facebook is relatively easy with the right software, which is not much different to having pop up blockers on our internet use.

It might be a little extreme not to use E-mail accounts or Internet browsers because of some unwanted advertisements popping up on your screen or in your e-mails. Particularly if there are such things as Spam folders or Ad blockers that are so freely available to deal with them. ;)

I gave up on Facebook advertising yonks ago! It simply doesn't work with the desired effect.

YouTube on the other hand, works perfectly, and if you're a regular user of the site, you've probably seen one of our adverts. Simply click it, and it'll take you onto iTunes, with something like 4,200 songs in 397 albums to download at your own free will.

Two websites, link doing the same thing, YT works so much better at it, as you're forced to watch the ad. IMO, for every click, we pay 43p. At the same time, we can earn £10 - 30% Apple commission - 50% of remainder we pay our atrists, and it's working out at an average order of £22.41 per click-through (according to my lovely software.) That's £7.84 profit for us, for Emma spending about 10 minutes fiddling about.

With that, I'm not taking into account the click-throughs from the links at the bottom of the videos, but for someone to download one single for us to break even, it's worth doing!

I use FB PURITY to rid me of all those irritating ads FB insist we have. With the added bonus of not having to view their awful Timeline feature they insist we have.

Then sell them out to advertisers (their real "customers) to make money. Personally although I do use the site I don't see adverts due to Adblock and FBpurity.

So although FB are reliant on advertising to make their money, you guys filter them out?

It's thanks to the likes of you that Zuckerberg has been dropped from the list of the world's ten richest technology billionaires:

In fact I heard recently that FB shares are 40% down on their float value.

How do you two sleep at night?!?

All the better for knowing his "worth" is $9Bn lower than he thought it was at IPO time. Zuck makes me feel warmly about Gates by comparison.

I'm no financial genius but when i saw the IPO for FB and i were a Financial Advisor i would have told people not to touch the shares with a double length barge pole. I mentioned at work the share price will be below $20 shortly, they were. They are $17 below the IPO price today.

It is a fad nothing more nothing less. Something else will come along for people (idiots) who feel the need to share their most intimate details with the rest of the world to feel good about themselves and give all their private information away for all the world (not to mention government's) to see for nothing.

It will end up like DIGG who were offered $200 Million by Google a while ago and as just been sold for $500.000 !! I would love to have a drink with DIGG's CEO and ask the question, what's it like to kiss goodbye to almost $200 Million?

I'd love to se the look i would get !

I couldn't have put it better myself!!!

I agree that it's a fad that will eventually pass. Couldn't believe it when ITV paid £175m for Friends Reunited in 2005 as everyone could see that it had ALREADY passed. The only surprise was that they got as much as £25m when they sold it 4 years later.

Facebook's job is to sell ads not vet them. It's the customer's job to exercise diligence before parting with money.

Facebook don't sell the ads, they sell ad space to companies.

Any public service has a job to vet the ads they display. Imagine the outcry if ITV suddenly started advertising child pornography and bluntly announce that its not their job to vet the ads as they only sell advertising space.

I drink Ovaltine (subliminal ad.) ;)

Its no different to me fast forwarding the commercials on the movies I record, or go off and make a brew during the commercial breaks on television. Just as I am not forced to buy the products they are selling, I am neither forced to watch their sales pitch. :D:D
