Mr Squiddy i get what your saying, i have no problem with people giving away such things, just feel its a cheek, especially when people post wanted after wanted for stuff the rest of us save up for and buy ourselves. if its going free, great, grab it if you get the chance and can use it. i don't really have a problem with some wanteds, its just the cheeky repetative people who think we should give them what i class as luxury items.
Likewise, I understand your point. Our local group actually has a rule now which prevents more than one 'Wanted' message per poster per month. This has cut down the stupid posts to practically nothing. I think the last daft one was someone wanting an iPod in good condition.0 -
Just thought I'd add this.
I know I've offered things and have literally had emails through in seconds, in fact I've had emails through asking for it, before its even come up on my pc!
Maybe I'm getting old and paranoid
I would be a bit dubious about the reasons regarding the last bit! If they have not appeared on the Freecycle site then it seems doubtful that it has been sent by email yet which leaves me with only one unfortunate conclusion........theres always one greedy so and so out there!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
Woah! Hold on. Who the hell are you to throw an accusation like that. Of course there will be bad mods, but I bet most of them are doing it for the good of the group/planet and are fair.
Unless you know what you are saying is true and even then it will be about only a tiny tiny percentage of mods that you actually know, please refrain from accusing hard working people who give up their free time.
There may be just the odd one but in general we mod Freecycle because we believe in it! No rewrd except from the odd member-Ive had a few lovely emails from members who say how well the group is run and thanking me etc etc. Just how much stuff could any mod collect anyhow? This is why its good to have a "taken" post stating who collected the item! If a mod is asking for the item you know anyhow, by the yahoo id or username so ultimately, it is the choice of the person giving.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
I allow a week for wanteds but most groups it is a month. I do this because the group isnt huge-yet. When there are greater number of members I will increase the time to two weeks to give others a fair chance on their wanted posts also.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

Actually, that happened to me also. I had 2 requests for an item I was advertising within minutes of posting it to the group (was offering a piece of furniture). I checked the Yahoo group page and my post wasn't showing there - nor was it half an hour later. A bit strange, don't you think? By the way, all members are moderated in that group.
This, plus apparently no moderation on the number of wants per member per month completely cheesed me off with my freecycle group and so I decided to unsubscribe a couple of weeks ago.

Sometimes I feel it would be nice to have a 'rating' like we do on Ebay so you can see how many wanteds people post; how many items they collect and of course offer. We could then see who was taking advantage. They could also be listed on how often they fail to turn up to collect as arranged!Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0

That would be a very good idea, but I don't think its possible though.“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0 -

Too simple an attitude as to who is or isn't !
I offer very little, I want occasionally, I take and collect quite (even very) frequently. I sometimes (quite rarely) fill other people's wants.
In your eyes I'm probably taking advantage.
How wrong you would be.
I offer little because I have little to offer.
That doesn't mean I have nothing - I have most things I need.
I have little to offer because by the time I've finished with it, believe me, it's no longer fit for purpose by any stretch of the imagination.
I still have a 16" colour TV in my bedroom - it is 28 years old and I've fixed it(myself) 3 times.
I've twice repaired a 2 slice toaster that's about 11 years old - just a cheap Hinari - it only cost £4 new
I replaced the bearings (myself) twice on on my 14 year old washing machine.
Only when there was a catastrophic failure of the "spider" and the drum came through the side of the tub was it beyond repair. I collected another FC washing machine that was "knacked" - it was leaking and making loud crunching noises.
I fitted new bearings and some seals/hoses from my old machine and I'm still using it today - over 2 years later.
I salvaged a few extra spare bits from the old machine that would fit my "new" one and the rest, with the exception of the stainless steel drum, went to the scrap metal merchant. The drum became a garden incinerator.
I actually collected a second "faulty" washing machine for a few bits for another little project of mine. I took it to bits and another FC that posted a want, had the stainless steel drum ALSO as an incinerator.
My worn out carpets go to the allotment.
Old sheets, blankets & towels go to the boarding kennels where my Great Dane lives when I go on holiday.
I've collected a fair amount of wood and turned them into sheds, shelves and fencing. Any bits left over go in the chimenea or barbecue.
I've taken lots of offers of aquarium equipment including fish - these have been used to maintain existing tanks and install new ones at 3 nursing homes and an old people's home, something I do in my spare time. (My mother was in one of them before she died)
I've had various white goods and electrical items. Many needed fixing so I did.
Most were passed on to my elderly father or mother-in-law, some to neighbours and friends.
I've even Freecycled between boards. I saw a wanted appear, more than once over 3 months, on a couple of local FC groups and by chance saw an offer of the same item on another FC group some weeks later. Unfortunately the offer was over 100 miles away. However as it happened I was going to passing within about 5 miles of this offer about 3 weeks later. I asked if they could keep it until then and they said yes. I contacted the local "want" and asked if they had had their request fulfilled. It had not. 3 weeks later I collected said item from 100 miles away and delivered it on my way home to a guy who lived about 12 miles away. Took me about 20 minutes of my time to do this and possibly cost me £1 in fuel, but so what.
A few days later I collected a "5 litre green plastic unleaded fuel container" from a FC offer and it was still full of petrol !

I have just seen this one - I had no idea what it was so I googled it - they go for £185 plus VAT
This maybe a long shot but does anyone have a Craft Robo Machine they are no
longer using, which might be gathering dust and taking up
valuable space? If so I'd very much like to take it off your hands and make
very good use of it!
Who are they kidding?0
