Mr Squiddy i get what your saying, i have no problem with people giving away such things, just feel its a cheek, especially when people post wanted after wanted for stuff the rest of us save up for and buy ourselves. if its going free, great, grab it if you get the chance and can use it. i don't really have a problem with some wanteds, its just the cheeky repetative people who think we should give them what i class as luxury items.

Ok but whats wrong with a TV shop.

So you are encouraging people to go out and buy a new one, and not take an old and used one from someone who has replaced theirs, that has all but valued it as worthless and it about to dump it.

no, its fine to ask for one, but cheeky to specify what they want. if i had a 15" one, why wouldn't that be good enough, if they need one, at least to tide them over.

because its cheeky at that. i want a helicopter, shall i post for one of those. people seem to think they can ask for anything, freecycle is so not about that. its about keeping stuff out of landfill, not asking for whatever tkes your fancy.

I live quite near, and visit now & then (usually when passing to save time, money, fuel, and reduce the environmental damage from travelling) a car breakers yard.
They occasionally have had exactly what I wanted - a late(ish) Mondeo estate that had a towbar fitted but it has already been removed.
The yard does not operate any form of reserving parts, or phoning "customers" when suitable cars or parts arrived to be scrapped.
There are just too many to do it.
Unless I am very lucky with my visit coinciding with a towbar becoming available, to stand much chance of finding one, I need to visit the breakers TWICE A DAY and EVERY DAY.
Now that doesn't make sense from any aspect.
But I am trying my best (not only to save myself a bit of money) to RE-USE a secondhand tow bar from a car that's come to the end of its life - probably through a RTA. This saves somewhere down the line a new one having to be made with all the manufacturing wastes of energy and materials. Or if one does turn up at my breakers and nobody claims it, it getting melted down in a total waste of it being made in the first place when it has another 20 odd years of usuable life.

Someone on Freecycle may have a car that is going to a car breakers that has a perfectly good tow bar fitted to it but can't be bothered to remove it themselves. Afterall, it it is a RTA, then insurance has probably paid out for the vehicle. If they have I'd be happy to remove the tow-bar myself at their convenience before it is dumped.

Can't quite see how a helicopter and a tow bar are at all in the same category !

    Don't have (or want) either!

I do have a small trailer that is used mostly for recycling issues and helping with saving the environment.

So if someone wanted a portable one that worked off 12 volts for use when camping, you think they should take your 32" widesceen (since you upgraded to 40" LCD) and buy a generator to get it to work !
