What would be the point in having mods if they approved the post without reading them?
I like the others here have had replies to my offers before they have appeared in my inbox. As the mods are the only people that see my offer before it appears in my inbox (no I’m not on daily digest) how would you explain it?

Yahoo doesn't always send out all the messages at the same time, I know that from a completely different group I am on.
I wonder if you have been reading your local freecycle cafe, where I believe this was discussed not too long ago

do they not? thats interesting to know. i've wondered in the past about this happening, and if it could be the mods. i've actually been informed that someone was once doing this on a group, but were removed from being a mod for it, (still appears frequently on our boards though, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
i know most of them are hardworking and give up there free time to do this for everyones benefit.

As per usual - more sweeping statements.

If I make a post (and the majority of other members on my local boards) it appears on the FC forum immediately because I'm not moderatored - only newcomers and those that have broken rules get their postings checked by a mod before they appear.

My post can appear of the FC board for several minutes before an email notification is sent by Yahoo, let alone appear in my mailbox at my ISP, let alone be picked up by Outlook Express and put in my Inbox !

How often does you mail program (eg OE) access your ISP for new mail ?
Unless you've changed it, default is at least 5 minutes, sometimes 10 !

As far as I understand, Yahoo should send all the posts out at about the same time, I have no idea why, whether its something at Yahoo or something else on the hinternet, but they don't always arrive when they should.
If you think you know of a mod doing anything wrong, report him/her to another mod, they will be looked at, its hardly brain surgery to find out if they have been doing something wrong.

Sometimes whole messages don't arrive for some reason, I know this from the other group I am on, not freecycle. Mind you, it has been getting better this past year or so.

I'm not sure if it has been recently resolved all but FC members with ntlworld email addresses were getting ALL their emails bounced & rejected and so received nothing direct from FC. This was because NTL (now Virgin) regard Yahoo as a significant source of SPAM and so blocked ALL Yahoo mail.

two points,

everyone on our board is moderated, except mods. no one i've ever come across is allowed to post straight to the boards. i've been a member over a year, and asked why ive not been cleared, and been told no one is.

also, it doesn't matter how often your oe or whatever checks, if the requests pour in before the request, it can be up to anything like 5 or 10 minutes before your request appears?. hopefully it is just a glitch with the yahoo thing. in most cases it sounds like it probably is. but i can see why people get disillusioned when this happens.

Luckily MSE is run a lot better and we don't have to wait for a mod to read our post before they appear

But this "sequencing issue" can be affected by differences in the time settings on your PC, the Yahoo server, possibly the mod's PC and how the approval software actually works and when notification emails are sent, and the time set on the PC from the person that responded to your post.

Can also depend if 1 email comes "direct" from 5 miles down the road on the same mail server by the same ISP as yourself, or it is bounced off 3 satellites going via Hawaii & Australia.
