    Spot on!
Virtually all of the members on my group are on daily digest. Apart from them not getting flooded with emails they are less likely to be jumping in on every offer going! ......This seems to give everyone a fair chance rahter than just the opportunists.I think this is a bit of a rare thing though as on other groups, a lot of people are on individual messages and constantly moaning about the number of emails they get.

funnily enough - this was posted on my local freecycleuknetcafe board this morning.

ps. My view on the multimessage thread = I prefer separate messages
as I find it easier to scan quickly through and also confess to
posting offers separately for this same reason. Also some people
just seem to request everything on a list whether they need it or not
so I hope multiple requests to the different offers from the same
person may just embarass them into think first
    !

I use freecycle a lot, managed to get 30 demi-johns from various places, a sofa, a chait, a complete set of encyclopaedia Britannica great books (never read worth £600) a bookcase, display cabinet, cupboards for shed, single bed tumble dryer, wheelchair, hand embrodiered curtains from Kashmir and other bits and pieces.

Hubby is picking up a multigym tonight.

The idea of freecycle is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, not give to the needy it's not a charity. If you want to give to the needy then give to a local organistation which gives out furniture to those on income support. Otherwise it's usually on a first come first served basis in these parts.

Being a collector of these myself, even though I tend to go for older ones than these, I can't see a real problem with this request. It lets people know that older games are wanted by someone before they throw them away.
This week someone gave away a Xbox and 10 games on one of my local freecycles, so things like this are given.

ps, I didn't go for the local xbox :D

    Just thought I'd add this.

I was at the BIL's the other day and he has just started using freecycle. He must have a devious mind......... We were talking about lots of posts saying nobody collected, nobody turned up, can't get hold of the person that said they wanted it, etc
So........... he's after this large item, won't say what it is....... what I could do he says, is set up a automatic email to email the person back if the offered line has a certain word in it........ so taking this a step further says I, why don't we ask for anything with one of a few words in it, presumeably expensive stuff he says with a wink....... of course, wouldn't be worth doing otherwise... then we could just pick and choose what we wanted when we already had got them.

But, of course we wouldn't just get the 18th century card tables, we would also get the books about 18th century card tables....... Mmmmmmm and judging by the amount of posts by people upset by non pickups and loads of rude requests, someone(s) is already doing it..........

Worth thinking about if someone asks for something from you and doesn't name it in the email.
I know I've offered things and have literally had emails through in seconds, in fact I've had emails through asking for it, before its even come up on my pc!

Maybe I'm getting old and paranoid :)

i agree with beer, i've had that happen too. emails in before it appears in my inbox as an offered, i now state i won't pick for 24 hours to give everyone a chance, but even so, emails always whizz in very quick to start with, usually with "i want that, can collect" as the sole part of the message. maybe i'm harsh but i now reject any impolite ones, as i think how many of these are you sending out. bet its saved to paste to save typing.
