    Hiya,

After reading this thread, I have to agree freecycle is a brilliant idea, but I am amazed at how many folks take the preverbial in what they ask for - I've lost count of the amount of white goods asked for, often in a single post, often whole households basically in some cases and you get the impression they are either dealers or just fancy a change of scene.

One case which I found to be brilliant was just a simple posting looking for a rhubarb root as they lady wanted to start growing some in her back garden. She had lots of replies and to me this is what it is all about. Simplicity, not greed.

A post about a week ago (unfortunately it's been deleted) was for a 28 inch tv, but preferably bigger as their plasma has just given up the ghost. Greed is an understatement. Here are some of the things posted recently on ours for your amusement (oh and there has been several requests for caravans, one person even "got one".)

Wanted : Working TV 20" Plus Dundee Area
I'm desperately in need of a tv as ours has finally given up the ghost,
mostly used for my son to play his video games on - take him to the park, it will do his health and communication skills the world of good, not to mention the social aspect.

Wanted - Working Washing Machine - Dundee

Hi I'm desperate for a working washing machine. As long as it's
working I'm not bothered what it looks like. I have a wee boy and it's
getting annoying having to lug my washing to my Mums and back again - is there a laundrette closer to you than your mums perhaps ?

Wanted three piece leather suite newport on tay
Wanted three piece leather suite newport on tay - looking for black leather chair as my kids have ruined mine and cant afford a new one can collect anywhere - one size floor fits all or just ask for a settee instead of specifying.

    WANTED: Sony Ericsson mobile phone
A long shot but I have had my mobile stolen 4 days after upgrading it,
typical! Have the charger etc for the 750i so if anyone had a sony
ericsson they no longer needed that would be great as I'm not good
with all these gadgets and have only been able to navigate my way
around the ericsson - a shame and I do sympathise, but..............!

    Wanted :turf (forfar)
Large amount of quality turf required for forfar garden. Must be able
to deliver. Thanks very much - do you think they would like some of my dandelions and thistles which I successfully cultivate inadvertently every year?

    Recieved gas cooker in Dundee
Many thanks to ****** and ***** for gas cooker its up and running.I`m very pleased with it. Do you have a manual for the cooker, also does the oven have a vent or cover for the base of oven, the flame seems very open - saying nowt about this one.

Wanted;blue tooth for orange net work newport on tay
Husband needs one for when he is driving because of the law - erm switch the phone off when driving - problem solved.

These are just a few who I feel are taking things too far, but they are far the worst I have read and like many others who asked for high value things or even posted high value things I'd be interested in their response and if they did actually give / receive what they asked for.

Also I know this is not the issue, but when I have received something, for example I got visual basic books for my son the other day, I like to take a little box of sweets or something just to say thank you and show I'm genuine. Does anyone else do this?

    Ramble officially over...........

has anyone else noticed wanted appear after someone has offered things for the same item (not by same person or anything) but its like if people don't get something they then post a wanted for the item with some story of how they "NEED" it. very odd.

I have seen an offer go up after a wanted for the same item. guessed that the owner was not going to give it to the person who posted the wanted ad

I think these offered just jog people's minds and make them think that there may be other people with the same items to offer.

I've asked for a moses basket after seeing one offered. I never received one (my freecycle doesn't seem as packed with unwanted baby items as other areas). Have ended up bidding on one on ebay.

Jo_b not sure where you live but I have a rocking cradle, complete with matress, drapes and bedding you can borrow if you want. I know the little un's are not in moses baskets, cradles, etc for long so your welcome to borrow if you stay near enough to drop it off.

Oh and be careful what your bidding on with ebay - I was bidding on what I thought was a moses basket and fancy lacy stuff for my niece. I was outbit and put in a higher bid, only to realise I was bidding on 22 plain moses baskets with matresses and no covers i.e. the plain wicker (can't think what you call the stuff so wicker will have to suffice). You guessed it, I won and they were delivered in a bin liner. I didn't know what to say or do and ended up giving them all away to my local Salvation Army, as I thought they would be able to sell them better than me and lesson learnt. Read anything I'm going to bid on very closely indeed now.

Still laugh about it though, and get teased to hell about it which will no doubt happen for many years to come.

Oh and we often get the wants right after someone has posted / received something. TV's seem to be really popular on this front. Must be everyone upgrading to the flat screen / digital / HD tv's and there is a surplus on the go for the big chunky monstrostities, mmmm a bit like the one in my living room, but it's not broken so I'm not going to fix it! Sometimes it's good not to be a follower of fashion.
