In my group, every message by everyone is moderated - yet they still let the ridiculous requests (shopping lists) through. Also noticed one or two 'regulars' posting thanks on an almost daily basis - I think they must sit on the computer all day bagging everything that comes along

my most local board has now banned any thanks messages, its suggested we send our own by private email, as they clog the board up apparently. annoying though, cos i liked to check to see if people had collected and been polite iyswim.
i hate the fact that certain people on our board apply for everything i post, (and some have never offered anything) does my tree in, i just ignore them now, they can't possibly be in need of everything i'm giving away, lol. localist board is dull to day, no one in NEED of much today. lol0 -
A very long time ago their used to be 3-monthly street corner collections of household junk (probably 'cause only 35% of people had cars then). Locals used to rove around removing anything useful. That changed to the guy at the local dump keeping his eyes open and collecting anything useful that worked and it probably went to the local junk shop or maybe his rels.
Looks like Freecycle is the modern cyber-equivalent! I am using it to offload a relative's unwanted stuff before she moves - saving the effort of taking it ot the tip. Couldn't care about the reasons why people want the stuff so long as they take it!0 -

From my local one today...I am seeking a good spec computer to use for internet access and as a
work aid. I am a student engineer and require a fast enough computer to
run computer aided design software. PC or Laptop.
So it has to be a good spec & fast, so don't go wasting his time with anything over 6 months old now, and if you can be quick about it as he has a £10,000 graphic design contract to finish before the weekend, if you could deliver it also and on the way pick up a takeaway for him then that would be a nice gesture.0 -
