Sorry Emma you have totally misinterpreted the benefits system.
For every pound you pay in there are millions of people waiting to claim that pound and another 30p on top. Thats why the benefit system is running a deficit, billions being paid in , but even more billions being taken out, I hope you're not counting on getting a state pension ?

    I guess you're right.

Sorry for asking! I only asked because every day you read in the paper people getting loads of benefits that have not worked or ever paid tax in this country!

We can live quite comfortable on my wages I own my house outright, and have no debts as I have said the both of us have worked since leaving school.

I apologise for wanting my wife to stay at home and bring up our child!!

I was only asking what we might be entitled.

and the key word there is ENTITLED!

If the benefits system is to fundamentally change, it needs to look at that word very closely.

If people can get away with not working and claim benefits all their lives without paying taxes, then the system is at fault. You can wait till the cows to come home before everyone becomes "responsible" or whatever.

Also, tax credits are a working benefit. If you fulfill the criteria then you are entitled to it, simple as.

I thought you had to be on a low wage to get tax credits? I am basing that on my husband and I not being entitled to them though!

Can I recommend you take a real good look at your budget before she leaves just to make sure you CAN afford it? Also, does she love children? Perhaps she could become a child-minder?
