Do you flash to warn of speed cameras? Now there's a hand signal.

Maybe it's better not to warn people? If they are routinely speeding then a stern word from a traffic officer and the threat of a fine and points on the licence might be what it takes to persuade them to ease off a bit and observe the posted limits - which could in turn save their own or someone else's life further down the line.
Just a thought...0 -
Slightly different when your in a HGV though.
Have you been stuck behind one on an A road at 40mph where you have little chance to overtake. 40mph is stupidly slow and just winds some drivers up, So they overtake in stupid places.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

agreed...if they're on 9 points, warning them with a signal, they don't get banned and then they kill someone when they would have been on the bus....0 -

Or conversely, they might lose there job because they lose there licence to a money making scam there to milk motorists for slight infractions of the law and no regard for the truth.
You show me one scientific, peer reviewed paper that shows speed cameras have provably caused a reduction in road deaths that cant be attributed to any other factor, not including the fake propaganda put out by the lying dutchman, otherwise ill stick to the spirit and purpose of this website, which is to save people money and protect them from being ripped off.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. A camera will equal a reduction in speed so of course it is attributed to another factor. So by your logic let's scrap all safety measures.0 -

Road deaths were falling all across europe before speed cameras were introduced as a result of better driver training, better vehicle safety, and better road layouts. When speed cameras were introduced, you would have expected the graph to have taken a sharp turn down, in fact it continued its smooth curve and flattened out. Hence it can be shown that measures already in place were reducing road deaths, and there's no evidence speed cameras had any influence.
Furthermore, by the polices own figures, less than 20% of accidents had speed as a major or contributing factor. hence even if speed cameras did work, they would only have influenced 20% of all road deaths.
SO, no, lets not scrap all safety measures, just the useless unnecessary ones and the ones being used to put a stealth tax on motorists. The speed cameras in Lincolnshire cost the rate payer £1m a year, I want that spent on real road safety that works, not a money making scam dressed up as fake road safety, there to line the pockets of various private companies, not to mention the £60,000 rake off (average) per year the Chief Constable gets into his personal bank account off the £18m a year the ACPO makes from dictating road policing policy. If you dont think thats corrupt and immoral, you are part of the problem..**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. I agree that it is disgusting how much money is swindled out of motorists by these stealth tax cameras. However, as this is a moneysaving website, I would like to share with everyone that I have found a way to evade this tax and it's 100% legal. It's called sticking to the speed limit.
OK, I sometimes do creep over accidentally but this is the exception rather than the rule, so in over 10 years of driving I have never been fined for speeding... proof my tip works!
No need to thank me! This is what the website is all about. But do think of me when you stick it to the man by avoiding the stealth tax next time you're out on the road :beer:0 -

There I was driving a large van along a winding, undulating country lane (NSL but 40 mph for the van) when over the hedgerow I spy a blue light. Obviously a police car secreted away in a field gateway.
Glanced at my speedo, about 38mph, no problem, or so you'd think.
After passing plod-on-wheels, I kept an eye on my mirrors and he came out of that gateway and tucked himself right up my arris like Sterling Moss on acid.
With hindsight I really wish I'd stepped hard on that center pedal because of what happened next.
After following me at 40mph (keeping in the blind spot) for about a mile and a half, we approached a built-up area and a 30mph sign. I eased off the accelerator and passed the sign at about 27/ 28 mph.
Next thing you know, super cop swings out from his hiding place and guns his Ford Anglia around me, blue light flashing and mee-maw cutting through the tranquility of the village.
Did me for 40mph in a 30mph limit - the lying !!!!!!!!Ford Anglia? - yeah, it was a while ago but I can hold a grudge cant I

Didn't you have a tacho, which would have supported you?
Yes, you should have stepped on the anchors and let him go up your rear end. I once saw a patrol car go up the rear end of a woman in Preston when she stopped at a pedestrian crossing and did a fair amount of damage. I stopped and gave the woman my name and address and told her to use me as a witness if she had any problems but I never heard any more. I was determined two coppers in their patrol car wouldn't gang up on her. One's a different matter.
I've run into that famous scotsman from West Mercia Police once and he's a real b******."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Would imagine it stems from this:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/documents/digitalasset/dg_070566.pdf
Where you would wave your hand up and down to warn other road users that you intend to slow down.0
