i think as they have been nice enough to refund your money that you take the moral high ground and return thiers, this is the second person who on here has said they have had money off the bank that isnt thiers now i hate banks as much as the next person but if this sort of thing gets out that people are ripping banks off it is not going to look good on all of us as there are certain people who already think all claiming are just scroungers some have come on here and said as much taking what is not rightfully yours is just making that assumption right and if found out could damage all this hard work, because of a stand against the banks unfair charges we all be seen as money for nothing grabbers, as i say i dislike banks but dont lower yourself to thier level, i would draw what was mine and then ring the head office number tell them that you are colsing your account and that they have money in there which is thiers you will earn the respect for your honesty and will show that we arnt all here just for a few quid for free

I would transfer one lot to your new account and keep the mistake lot in your account. See what happens after a month. Stictly speaking it isn't yours but...I would be tempted to keep it.

If you have signed to accept an amount then anything above this could be taken by the bank at any point. If you have spent it and they ask for it back, you will need to find the money and could find yourself in a sticky situation.

Of course it's your choice, hopefully you know what you should do morally and legally to base that decision on.

I would deposit it in a high interest account elsewhere then return it to the bank when and if they realise their error. Any interest you make on the money will be yours to keep.

It is a very long shot, but after six years an they haven't made any request for the money to be returned, the money will be yours for keeps.

You can not make a claim for money after 6 years.

As usual we have people who think it is alright to steal money... Just typical that. I would love to know what would happen if anyone advocating such action accidently paid two lots into another account and knowone owned up... I would suspect when they found out they would be on here screaming 'thief'!

    It's out of order.
  • I'd just write to the branch, and send it recorded. Just explain that you believe they've accidentally deposited £xxxx.xx in your account, and that you'd like to arrange to return it to them.

As long as you've offered it, and have proof that you have. The ball is in their court. Just don't touch it for a few months if that.

The money isn't yours. I would call then and explain they have made a mistake and credited you twice.

Glad you were succesful in your claim :D

Similar thing happened with my parents with Abbey. They overpaid and were told to take back the excess. They didn't, so another letter went off. Still nothing.

Then 6 months later they sent a letter demanding their money. My parents sent off copies of the original letters and after negotiation, a 50/50 deal was agreed.
