  • Afternoon everyone.

I've just has my first fly morning and all I have left to do is hoover and wash the kitchen and dining room floors. The oven needs attention too, but my kitchen window has been cleaned for the first time for ages!
No downstairs toilet, but I gave our loo and the sink a quick swish.

Once lunch is out of the way I'll finish off and then I'm going to:

wrap friend's birthday present and parcel up ready to be sent in a couple of days
do some ironing, (then put ironing board and iron away!)
spend time on new menu plan and shopping list

    Thanks for the inspiration.
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

Henry is downstairs so I am just checking what else I am meant to be doing.

More washing to hang out.. and put in.. and fold.. it is never ending, I swear!!

Sorting this fabric is next to do.. it has been in the middle of the room for a week now so it is time to put it away!

That's given me a very much needed laugh. I'm sat here cackling to myself. Seriously though, thinking about it I might just be allergic to my children too...symptoms.... tearing my hair out, worrying constantly, sleeplessness!

  • I ask myself - why do I bother?
Darling DH, whom i love enormously, father of my children and provider of dosh for me to be very very very careful with, has just left for work with the parting shot 'Darling, perhaps you could be a little less efficient with the paper work? - I used to know where everything was'.

    I get that too.

I did the list this morning whilst it was still too cold to go in the garden. I did a major clean on Friday as we had visitors this weekend so not a lot left to do after I did a general clean last night. Then we did outside stuff until the boys went on strike. Bored now, I want to be in the garden.

I might just have to tackle the toyboxes as threatened for several weeks now. Not sure if my sanity can take it......

I want to try this out, but any ideas that could help me? I live on my own and work full time, so although some things I need to do a lot less than some of you (only 3 loads of laundry a fortnight!) I also need to do all the gardening and wash the car etc. (well, it only gets washed about once a month!). I'm working from home this week, so am gaining 2 hours a day that would be commuting time, so this week is OK, but any ideas for future weeks?

The garden is patio and gravel, so no lawn-mowing, but I'm growing some veg in containers and am just getting to that time of year when things need planting, and soon things will need watering regularly.

I usually cook for 4 and freeze the extra portions.

There's a lot of people on here that work full time. Once you get started it begins to get a lot easier. I can get away with 30 mins max a day most days. Plus there are no jobs at the weekends, which is when I go my gardening, car washing etc, and if you don't have a spare room / kids room then you get friday off as well.

If it's all too daunting, then set a timer for 15 minutes and do as much as you can in 15 minutes (you'll be surprised). Each room comes around each week, so if you don't get to do everything on the list it's not a big deal. I also find that keeping on top of the kitchen stuff, ie washing up, dishwasher, wiping the worktops down each day means that the kitchen doesn't get too messy in a week.
