What do you think of this now received item? Supposedly "brand new".

if i sell something which hasn't been used then i list it as "new", regardless of how long i have had it. i would list something as "brand new" if it was in immaculate condition

but if i sell something which hasn't been used but is damaged then i would still list as "new" and state in the description that it was unused but was damaged

what i'm trying to say is it would have been ok for the seller to say it was "new" as it had never been used/fitted to a car but the damage should have been stated in the auction.

they should definitely not have put "brand new" as it was 5 years old and damaged

I think you are being unreasonable. If you wanted a brand new, perfect condition bumper, than pay the full price from the dealer.
Youve paid just over half the price for brand new bumpers and are still expecting perfection.
So what if they are 5 years old? Do you know how old the bumpers would be if bought from the main dealer? For all you know, they may well have a typical life on the shelf of several years anyway.
I think you should congratulate yourself on a packet saved, stop whinging on and get over it.

And if you're still not happy, I suggest you shut your ebay account down because your looking for perfection at a fraction of the price and I suggest you will be permanently disappointed.

Ive just reread your OP, and you say that you were prepared to pay a premium for them as they are hard to get hold of. So even more, congratulate yourself on your purchase. You bid, you bought, now move on.

  • I think they should be in perfect condition if they are "brand new", I would even be happy in this case if they came close yet these are scraped/marked on each side, along the upper front and lower front.

If I bought anything as brand new and it was marked I would be unhappy as would the vast majority of people. And rightfully so.

When I said they were hard to get hold of, I was including nationally as I wasn't including P&P as I was going to collect what I won and have a look at other stuff so I wasn't really thinking about the £20 fuel I expected I would use. It also gave me a reason to go to Newcastle and have a look at a particilar shop I wanted to visit.

I don't understand how you think it's ok to sell something as "brand new" when it clearly isn't. I expect this is backed up by law aswell.

Well if enough people complain perhaps we can change that to Seller beware .... why should anyone accept a pile of pap just because the seller cant be bothered/is on the swizz/made a genuine mistake.

I recently won an apparently new dress that was very far from good condition let alone new. Just because the seller has never used it does not mean its a new condition. the excuse of what did you expect for your money does not wash with me- it has to do as it says on the tin ! regardless of how much i paid or what bargain i got. When the seller starts out they have no idea of the end sale value so they should ensure its accurate, just because the buyer gets it for a bargain does not mean they get second rate stuff and have to accept that.

    rant over ;)

If you want brand new, perfect etc, go to a shop, check out the goods and get exactly what you want.

If you want to do it on the cheap, take your chance on ebay. Some you will win, some you will lose.

And I buy and sell on ebay, and have a 100% feedback with over 1500 transactions, so dont make out I am favouring sellers over buyers because I am both.

have you actually contacted the seller yet..?

and told them how you feel?

as i honestly feel....the best way of sorting this out...is by constructive and polite emails.....

i had a buyer leave me a neg..... first one ever....

over something that i did not know about as they did not email me to let me know there was a problem/grievence..

    which was easily sorted......

and to be honest i dont think its fair on the seller for you to be airing your personal views on the matter before contacting the seller.... as it might be a genuine nieve listing.....i am not agreeing or disagreeing with the listing.....as i feel it is swings and roundabouts here....

and both to blame in diff ways......they should have mentioned.... the marking.... etc.... but then again maybe in their storage garage etc.... they could not see them with bad lighting etc.....

and you as a buyer should have asked questions.....

as a girly i am not clued up on car things..... but can you buy a bumper spray.. thats black..?

  • I've been in contact with the seller over the last couple of days. I've em,ailed photos of the damage. The seller was very apolagetic about the condition and could understand my dissappointment. He assured me that they were fine when tyhey left him although the packaging seemed to be fully intact when I received them.

The seller refunded me £30 so I'm happy with the outcome and again expressed his sorrow. I'm lucky I was dealing with someone reasonable and genuine rather than the cowboys that are out there. Or even the sellers that I would expect to be reasonable as illustrated on here by people that think it's acceptable to misdescribe things as new, to deceive about the condition of items etc amongst other things. I expect they have many other tactics aswell!

Anyway thanks again for the constructive remarks.;)
