Yes you will need a prescription as Advocate is classed as a POM-V medicine meaning that it can only be prescribed by a veterinary surgeon registered with the royal college of veterinary surgeons. the animal needs to be in the care of a vet for a prescription to be writtena nd if it has not been to a vet for a long time may need to be seen by the vet to fulfil this requirement.
the orescribing vet is legally allowed to charge a prescription fee to cover the time it takes to write and also to cover for items like his professional insurance and subscriptions. This should roughly be around £10ish but varies from practice to practice and depending on where you live.
It is, therefore, likely to be cheaper to buy the product direct from your vets than though an online dealer as they can prescribe the product direct to you and the roducts profit margin will cover the vets professional fees and prescribing time already.0 -
Personally I have found Frontline to be less effective than it used to be.0

I am afriad that the use of any vet medicine from outside of the UK is illegal. If you are caught by customs with anything like this you will at the least have it confiscated. The laws on British veterinary drugs can be read at www.vmd.gov.uk
Every product legally allowed in this country has had to meet strict licencing laws over its safety not only on the animal it is being used on but also the owner and the environment.
Saving money by buying from UK online pharmicies is fine but this advise about buying from abroad is illegal.
Well perhaps British vets shouldn't be such a rip off and then we wouldnt have to go abroad to get our pets the treatment they need!!!
For info, I get my medication from Cyprus. Frontline is around 85p in equlivent money per capsule.....(Aug last year)....So if anyone has relatives in the forces or goes on holiday, remember this...Also it is in British packets!!!!'' A man who defends himself, has a fool for a client''0 -
I just purchased from http://www.petdrugsonline.co.uk/products.asp?aID=2&cID=12
£15.49 including P&P (standard postage)0 -

Where do you get every 3 months from??? I thought it was supposed to be applied every 4 weeks!
www.thevetshed.com are very good for prescription medicines like Advantage 80 - 1yr supply for £47 ish delivered. (In Australia so don't need prescriptions)
Been using them for 5yrs with no problems.
They do everything!!!
Milbamax is very cheap compared to my vets who charge about £8 per tablet!!!
Anyone know if Milbamax is worth the extra money for heartworm protection, do cats get this in the UK?

I think there is a difference between frontline spot on (no prescription) and frontline combo (prescription needed). Is this right, is there a vet online to answer this?
So then if you have to pay for a prescription from the vet the online prices aren't so competitive0 -
I have just found one of the cheapest online sites to buy a pack of 6 Frontline Spot On (no prescription) for my 3 cats at "pet drugs online" at £15.90 & free P&P. Google it as I'm not able to post the link.
Hope this helps someone.
