I hate this too – and when the cashier seems to think it’s a race to see how quickly he/she can scan my items!

They have targets to meet and will get in trouble if they don't (scanning an item every 3 seconds at the store where I work.) They also probably have a queue of customers tutting behind you and for every person who thinks they're scanning too fast there will be someone who snaps at them for scanning too slowly. They can't win.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I do that. It's because I can't push a shopping trolley and use a walking stick at the same time during RA flares. Often, I can't use a stick at all because my hands are too swollen. But I still need to get shopping - and I don't often need the minimum amount for a delivery.

I do that sometimes too. For me its my nerological condition causing mild mobility issues or extreme back pain, which bending forward relieves. I have to admit, i am embarrassed by it though. I almost never take a stick in the supermarket because its a hindrance with a trolley and unneccary when you have one. Only if i have had to park a very long way a way or am habing a very bad day

Would that be the fighting or the fact they're Eastern European that is your pet hate?

The fighting of course, it's a bit scary when people get that aggressive. I buy kefir from my local Polish shop every week and chat to the shop owner. I do feel intimidated by gangs of Eastern Europeans - an 11 yr old boy got stabbed in the back a couple of years ago and there have been fights in the town centre between people from various Eastern European countries in the past, one in broad daylight in the high st.

Whenever I go in to Morrisons early in the morning I have to annoyingly put up with scraps of the previous days trading!

i.e. Fruit, Veg, salad n Bread. (including fresh bread) Meat hit n miss.

Some items don't get filled up (or ordered) when the space is already occupied with a gap fill.

If I go to any other store they have everything filled up ready when they open!

This could depend on what area your supermarket is in, anything remotely classed as residential will have inforced delivery times in place we're not allowed to take delivery past 9.30PM till 6.00am,yet we are a 24hr store. When i first started working in a supermarket's i was amazed how little back stock they actually hold. in cases of bad weather we would be out of fresh stock in 6 to 24hrs instore bakery will run dry in 48hrs and would shut store after 72. and we are a fair size store, their is a saying that Britain is 3 meals away from a riot.

  • I hate it or any Supermarket when it's choc-a-bloc all the stuff you rely on disappears and the crowds make it very stressful.
I am definitely a Week Day Shopper, when I want to see things, it is so much nicer.

Lol! I think whoever made these ‘targets’ must have someone else do the shopping for them! Otherwise they would realize it doesn’t matter if the cashier doesn’t scan the items fast as it will still take the same amount of time to serve the next customer as Im packing my shopping normally!

What I'd love to see is these target-creators having a 'day in the life of' and seeing how achievable they are. It was a real bugbear at an old job of mine, it was constantly mentioned in my appraisals that I had to do a particular part of my job faster. Not helped by the fact it was originally a 2-person job but the 2nd person was pregnant and advised not to do that task by her doctor (higher risk of miscarriage in her particular case) so obviously it was taking me twice as long simply because she wasn't replaced - yet it still kept being raised as an issue. Then after a couple of months I ended up with knee problems, was signed off work for a week and then told by my doctor to limit the amount of kneeling I did - which this task involved a lot of (oi, get your mind out of the gutter!) and as the 2nd person still hadn't been replaced, my manager had to take over for a couple of weeks. It gave me a good giggle to see him taking literally twice as long as me - I'd start at 7.30 and be done by 9.30, whereas he wasn't done until around 12.30 (and didn't do half as thorough a job either). Funnily enough, the issue wasn't raised by him again after that :rotfl:

This is why they don't want you to bag at the checkout in Aldi. It all gets shoved straight in the trolley ASAP and this is faster.

My pet hate is the stupidly high shelves and the item you want is right at the back.
