Kaspersky is a better option, you get what you pay for, free is ok I suppose but I used Avast for a couple of years and I had one infection I just could not get rid of and I was advised to use Kaspersky, never had a problem since and it is rated in the top three anti virus packages out there. Free, free, free is not always good, good, good.

Have you changed your internet habits since you got that virus?

It may not necessarily be that Kaspersky is better, just that you're now not doing stuff that you did previously, and so have lessened your Risk of getting a virus. ;)

Windows Firewall (Vista onwards) has featured outbound protection since 2007.
Yeah, but with the default to allow everything.

    Kaspersky is a better option...
Agreed. Kaspersky has tested better than Avast or any other free a/v.

But Kaspersky alone won't give you the same level of security as you can get with a combination of free security products. For example:

    WOT + Sandboxie+ Avast/Avira/Panda Cloud + Threatfire(customised) + Malwarebytes
Free, free, free is not always good, good, good.
True, but cost doesn't necessarily equate to value. And as this is a money saving website it's nice to know you can get something for nothing without compromising quality.

All socks get holes from time to time though, so carry a backup pair....

Bit late once you've already got the blisters.
  • Continuing the analogy...

For those old enough to remember, Malwarebytes must be the Threadgold's Thoroughgrip Garterettes in the AV socks' drawer.
