I’ve made a start on my post mortgage bucket list. Duvet, fitted sheets and pillow cases procured! This replaces some very old bedding! Admittedly I didn’t actually need to wait until the mortgage was paid off before buying some of this stuff!

I'm trying to hold off until I do the refurb at mine and get all new stuff then - although I did find myself having the same thoughts when I put the sheet I bought in 2005 back on my bed the other day 🙄!

How do you know it's from 2005?

New bedding is lovely, especially if you get it half price or better.

Because sadly I remember exactly when I bought it 😮! I also remember exactly what I paid: £4 for the double duvet cover and two pillowcases, and £4 for the fitted sheet - so top marks to Asda for longevity 👍👍👍!

You have definitely got your money's worth! I've just thought that I still have bedding from BHS so I can probably date that back ten or so years.

My towels are BHS! But actually still okay-ish despite being brought c2010! I remember all my bedding too, it’s lasted well but I know the really old stuff needs replacing!

That's a good first start on your list @caeler nothing nicer than new soft bedding (mine are 10 years old so not so new or soft anymore  :D)
On the topic of Asda - when we moved house a couple of years ago we replaced our towels and bought them from there - they are still fluffy and look like new 2 years down the line.

I’m 19 days post mortgage redemption. It is still surreal. It’s the first time I’ve been unable to think about the future, because for the last two decades my goals have only been about “get a good job, keep the job, buy a house and pay off the mortgage”.

I’ve relaxed my attitude towards the monthly budget a little but not much as I have this underlying vulnerable feeling due to lack of savings.  I’ve got a good plan on building back up my emergency fund and once it reaches a certain level I’ll switch to putting more into my pension, with the added benefit of salary sacrifice pension which starts this month with my employer sharing employer NI savings which is good. I could do that now but I’ve decided for me I’d like a couple of months to maximise my saving, without the mortgage I can save 90% of my income!
