One of our clients was waiting for his to arrive in the post. After ten days they hadn't turned up, so he rang them and they faxed them to us in the afternoon.

One of the causes of this, is clients/accountants having several sets of accounts, depending whether they are borrowing or saving tax. I am sure I am not the only broker to have been asked "which set of accounts do you want?"

I wouldn't employ the accountant in question if that was the case!

Same here, requested 2 yrs of sa302's recently, person at HMRC I spoke to was very helpful & efficient, they said to allow 10 days to get them via post, but they were with me in 4 days :T
  • Just used the same number as on this thread. It took about 25 minutes wait to get through. I was told the forms would take two weeks. I then asked for them to be faxed (as previous people in this thread have) and was met with such hostility! I have given them my fax number... Fingers crossed here.

Worrying. How long did it take in the end?

They will fax them. There is not set policy but sometimes you get a jobs worth who wants to be awkward.

Order them in advance if you are self employed.

Not everyone has the luxury of being in a position to order in advance, hence some people may need it done quickly mortgage wise. I won't go into details.

How long did it take, feefona?

After finding this thread I phoned, waited 10 mins on hold, spoke to the woman and requested the forms to be faxed (to an online free account I created) after them saying it could take up to 3 weeks and me explaining it was urgent for the house the offer was on.

I received the documents in less than 20 mins. Im not sure if I just got lucky with the time of day or just an overly helpful assistant. She did insist that it was me she was faxing them to but other than that pretty straight forward.

Here's hoping the bank are as happy to receive them, as HMRC were to give.

You can get your tax calculation as a PDF when self assessing online, according to HMRC page page titled "Understanding and Checking your Tax Calculation":

"Sometimes you may be asked for your tax calculation by a bank or other lender as evidence of your income. You don't have to ask HMRC for a paper copy. If you do an online tax return, you can print off your tax calculation yourself. It may not show the form number - SA302."

I take a copy of mine each year but you can access them easily enough. When you log in to your HMRC account choose Tax return options and pick the year you need. You should see a link for VIEW RETURN. If you follow this link you will be given an option view your calculation for your latest submitted return after which you will be given the option to view and print full calculation.

Sorry PeeJam - this is of no use for mortgage purposes.

The figures have to come from HMRC with covering letter/fax header
