Requesting SA302's from HMRC for mortgage application

Im currently in the process of applying for a mortgage with Halifax. As I am self-employed Halifax have asked to see my last 3 years SA302's as proof of income. As I have an accountant who takes care of my tax online, I dont receive SA302's. Am I able to request these from HMRC? My accountant seems to think that HMRC will not send these out to me?

    From HMRC website:

    Receiving your tax calculation

You'll only get a tax calculation (form SA302) if:
    • you sent in or made an amendment to a paper tax return and asked HMRC to work out your tax
    • you sent in a tax return but HMRC doesn't agree with your tax calculation

It seems like if your accounts are unaudited by HMRC and are submitted online, you may not get SA302's. Instead as long as your accountant is Chartered your annual account reports from your accountant should be fine.

Hopefully experienced board members will be able to give more details.

    Spot on - well almost...

If your accountant is chartered, Halifax will definitely accept confirmation from them. Your broker or in branch advisor needs to just let Halifax know, as they send the confirmation form direct to the accountant only.

Alternatively, you can request your SA302's and many banks are going this way now to keep fraud and dishonesty down although they do take a week or 2 to come through.

    All the best

You can recieve SA302s from HMRC. If you call the self assesement help line and explain you require them for mortgage application they will send them out. takes about 10days

I would suggest that all self employed persons request these as a matter of routine, most lenders now use these as it is easier for them.

One of the causes of this, is clients/accountants having several sets of accounts, depending whether they are borrowing or saving tax. I am sure I am not the only broker to have been asked "which set of accounts do you want?"

I requested mine from HMRC last October and received them within two working days.

As my income is a mix of self-employed, company dividends and PAYE, SA302s were the best and most straightforward way to prove my income to the bank (NatWest in my case).

I don't why I kept thinking SA302 is related to Ltd Company tax details.

Since its personal self assessment document, self employed should be able to request it from HMRC.

In my case, although the end of year 2011-2012 has completed I have not received a form to be filled by HMRC to declare my dividends and salary amounts even though my accountant has requested this twice already from HMRC. May be they do not want me to pay tax ;)

most likely the public sector has so much money that they don't know what to do with it all.

Phone them up - you may have to hang on 10 or 20 mins - I did - but they are very helpful and sent mine out within a week

Just phoned HMRC (0300 200 3300) and managed to request 3 years SA302 to be faxed to me. The chap was exceedingly helpful and said they do two runs a day and it should be with me before 6pm.

Signed up to an online fax service for number with one month free trial so I could receive forms via fax.

The whole call took about 4 mins, of which 2 were used navigating the prolonged automated menu.

Fingers crossed but I am beginning to wonder if HMRC are starting to listed to the groans of the masses about their previously poor performance as this was excellent service.

Update: received 3 years SA302 by fax within the hour.

    Well done HMRC.

I had the same experience a couple of weeks back, phoned them to request that they be faxed through to the office. Barclays advised me that they have an arrangement with HMRC which allows them to fax them info. Was done the next morning. No complaints here.
