Just wondering whether the bank can be obliged to release the address of the ex under the data protection act - needed for court proceedings?

The bank won't have an address to release though as they believe that he lives at the OP's address.

I dont think so, the DPA is all about the protection of info on the individual - they wouldnt get involved in what they would see as a dispute between individuals. They would have to provide info if requested by the police for example but not for a private matter (happy to be corrected tho :) )

The fraud department on the other hand CAN help, as they will deal with the OP about her information and her address. I found them fantastic when my identity was stolen, very helpful :)

Just write across the mail "not known at this address" and put back in post box. It will be returned to sender so saves you going into the bank or keeping the mail safe.

We did this with the mail for former resident of our house who did not have their mail redirected at all and it soon stopped junk and official mail.

i have been into the branch with his post, several times but because of data protection they have to use the address he supplied them with theres nothing they can do.but i cant get my head around why he is doing this ?

I think the bank will keep your address on record as it's the only point of contact they have for him...albeit incorrect.

Or DECEASED - that should get the bank's attention.

    This.

As far as I'm aware doing this means that the bank put a block on the account as they know the post isn't recieved by the account holder and don't know who is getting it so they leave themselves at risk if they continue to send sensitive info out

Are you legally separated? If not, you may need advice better than mine as it is possible that his new debts are still your debts.

How did he manage to open an account with the bank in the first place as he needs formal identification with a bill with your address on? Definitely fraud:mad:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

It's not difficult, you open an account at a current address then simply tell them you have moved and give a different address.
