London Olympics Panic! - Britain's Useless Athletes Unable to Win Gold

British media's wall to wall coverage of the London Olympics of hyper inflating the general public's expectations for each and every event of what the UK's athletes (who have been doused in hundreds of millions of funding) will be able to achieve, only for a huge let down when forget Gold medals most of the time British athletes are lucky to even make into the final heats, which has skewed the whole coverage of the Olympics leaving the actual winning athletes barely covered unless there is some controversy to report upon.
Britain currently stands at a dismal 21st placing with just 2 silver and 2 bronze, when by now the target was to have won 3 gold medals. Britain's current performance compares very badly against the showing of 4 years ago in China when Britain won 19 GOLD Medals!, and came 4th in the medals table, winning the first Gold on Day 2 and now we are into Day 5. I could speculate when individual athletes such as Bradley Wiggins will win a Gold, but they keep letting us all down, time after time, it really will be humiliating from Britain if we have not won a single Gold medal by Friday.

How many times have you represented your country in the Olympics? It's easy to scoff from the sidelines.0

Just to clarify, that (very strange) article was written before we won another 5 medals, two of which are gold.0

To be fair, rowing has only just started and we've yet to go to the velodrome. They are sports we are really strong at, with other sports to come online also: athletics for example.
If we get a medals haul as big as Beijing that will be fantastic but people need to be realistic and realise it's our best ever. Our haul of golds in London is already better than that in Atlanta (thank goodness for Redgrave and Pinsent) and we have a week and a half left. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The trouble is, for proper athletes, that they have to train every day, sometimes twice a day, buying kit and paying club subs and paying for transport to/from the training venue .... then paying for entry to competitions and paying for travel/accommodation at competitions (e.g. one attendance at the nationals, in swimming, once a year, can cost 2 nights in a hotel and £100 in petrol + entry fees).
And you do that day in, day out, week in, week out, month in, month out .... for years.... maybe a decade or more.
And STILL some people aren't satisfied that they paid their £5 once and didn't see you win.0 -
Another great article from market oracle, the greatest publication of all time.

Which are the sports that the UK have invested the most in, especially cycling with the Manchester Velodrome.
Incidently, you can book 'taster' sessions at the Manchester Velodrome where they teach you how to use the fixed gear (and no brakes!) bikes and get you going around the track. The banking at each end of the track towers above you and is really daunting, but by the end of the session you're flying up there.
It's an amazing experience and makes for a great evening if you go with a load of mates and get a bit competitive.0 -

And don't forget, for each Olympian there will be hundreds of also rans who put in the work and the expense but never made it.0 -

And thousands, perhaps millions of ordinary people who do the sport just for the enjoyment of it. I'll never be a champion mountain biker, but that doesn't stop me getting out at the weekend and crashing around the Pennines and Peak district.0 -
