It definitely does work. I left it on for an hour and I had done a strand test too, but I don;t think you really need to. just make sure you rinse it for as long as it says - I took a clock into the bathroom and timed it properly. Apparently the rinsing is really important in getting the dye out.

    Good luck!

  • I've gone from almost black hair to blonde in a week - first, I used a similar product to colour b4, called jobaz hair colour remover - max strength - from home bargains, which was about a fiver, it took my hair from very dark brown/black to a mid auburn brown, (which I didn't like on me, but which may have suited someone who liked warmer tones).

I conditioned it a lot for a few days then went to the hairdressers for bleaching up to blonde, and toning with an ashy colour. It's a big change, but it has worked well, and the condition of my hair is ok!
  • Saw the jobaz one in the local B&M store. However, the lady at the till said she tried it & it didn't work on her hair. She said she ended up having to go to the hairdressers, so I decided not to buy the jobaz one.

skintchick...I am going to buy the decolour one & I'll let you know how it turns out :)

All I'm after is to just re-colour it, but the black dye just won't show up the new colour. Damn you Clairol.

Well I went & done it. Purchased decolour remover.

Now just waiting for my hair to dry so I can see the result. Hopefully I won't need to buy another box as it's not cheap lol.

Also, going to use dyes that have no peroxide or ammonia in future.

    Will report back :)

Well my hair is dry & I can say that I'm probably going to have to use another box of decolour remover. My hair has gone quite patchy & a lot of the black colour remains. Now I have to work out how long you have to wait before using the remover again.

You can do it again immediately. I remember reading that in the instructions. It did say some people would need two boxes, something to do with how often the hair has been dyed and how long the dye has been on the hair.

Hope you manage to get the result you want.

Ive used at least 5 boxes on my hair but i'm still left with darker ends. I was aiming for my all over natural colour (grey).

I hate short hair but i cant see any other way of getting shot of the dark (unless i cut it out).

  • After speaking to Clairol & the makers of decolour remover..both have said that the hair needs to be washed with a clarifying shampoo for a few weeks.

Apparently creamy shampoos & conditioners contain silicone which binds to the hair. This silicone makes it very hard for the colour remover to penetrate the hair.

Using a clarifying shampoo helps to breakdown the silicone & helps fade the hair dye too.

There was conflicting advice when it came to using a conditioner. Clairol said it is ok to use a conditioner, however, the maker of decolour remover said not to use a conditioner & use argan oil instead.

Baby shampoo is an apparently good clarifying shampoo as it contains no silicone or harsh chemicals.

So...wasted £12.99 unfortunately only to be told I should have used a clarifying shampoo for a while before using the decolour remover. May consider using the colour remover again once I've used the clarifying shampoo. Going to be stuck with bad root growth too in the meantime.

judi..please don't cut your hair short. I'm sure we will both get there in the end.

I use Vosene which contains salicylic acid . Not only is it good for the face, its good if you have dandruff too. Not that i have dandruff but my hair is fine and i like a deep cleansing shampoo.

Each time i use the Colour b4 product it reveals more grey which is what i want but its £10 a time and at this rate i am going to need another 4 boxes at least and then probably a trim..... Still, its better than having a harsh line of roots i suppose. Ive got plans for my hair but i am impatient and the cool colour of the grey isnt going with the warm tones of the ends.

Strangely enough, with my hair gently pushed back in a hair band i can now wear colours on my face that i havent wore for years. Beautiful pastel shades that sort of looked lost on my face when it was dyed.

The only thing, ive got a wedding to go to a couple of days before Christmas and i cant go like this... Still, i have plans. I just hope my hair has grown enough to be able to put them into action.

I'm wondering, are some colour removers better than others?

  • I have never had to use a colour remover before so can't say whether some are better than others.

Your right about cost..it can prove expensive if you find you are needing more boxes. It's also quite annoying too.

I'll try another box but i'll lay off the conditioner for awhile. I'll see if it makes any difference.

I'm using a cocktail of products at the moment.

    2 washes in Vosene
1 wash in John Frieda (The purple toned shampoo for cool tones)
1 conditioning in John Frieda lightening shampoo

Just to see if it makes a difference. I only 'Colour removed my hair a week ago so its a bit early to notice much difference.
