If you want to lift a dark colour out of your hair then try B4 Extra Strength. It'll still probably go a coppery colour but it's good for removing the darker shades.

Wow that stuff is great! I ended up a lovely light brown with almost blonde highlights. Much lighter than my natural colour but really lovely so I didn't bother dying it again as it is so nice. I used the colour remover on a green box, not the colour B4 brand, a different one, and it has worked brilliantly!

That's great news, people pay a fortune to achieve that colour :D it sounds lovley.

  • Glad you've managed to get a colour you're happy with, it sounds lovely :)

I have heard of people switching tubes of hair dye into different boxes in shops, not sure if that's what's happened in your case, but it's a possibility

My Daughter has just had a hair dye disaster (which is why I read your post ;)) She did a blue semi-permanent but washed the dye off in the shower & she now looks like she's auditioning for a part in Avatar or The Smurfs as her skin has gone all blue!! :rotfl: We also have blue patches on our cream leather settee where she leaned against it, with her hair rinsed off but still wet, which is not quite so funny
  • If your daughter has used Crazy Colors or similar, then they tend to continuously wash out. Gets even worse if your hair gets wet in the rain.

How is the condition of your hair now after using the color remover? Also, which brand did you buy?

I have black semi permanent on my hair. However, it does have a few layers of dye on it. I wanted to lift the black & have a dark warm brown on it.

I've been dying my hair dark red and black for years and I used colour b4 (the stronger one) and it stripped it back to a lovely chocolatey brown colour on the first attempt, and a light brownish colour with the second box.
My hair felt awful while I was shampooing it with the shampoo in the colour b4 box, but an intensive conditioner after you've washed it all out soon sorts it out and my hair feels the same as it always has after 2 strips in a week.

I think it's worth pointing out these removers don't work as well on hair thats been straightened daily as the heat from your straighteners melts the silicone from dyes in to your hair which can't be removed. If I remember correctly it's anything above about 230 degrees which melts the silicone to your hair. Also a lot of permanent dyes have peroxide in to make them permanent so the colour your hair goes may not be your 'natural' colour, but it's the base colour of your hair.

And always have a semi permanent dye/tint with ash tones on hand to tone down any unintentional oranges...:D It's recommended you don't use a permanent dye on your hair soon after using a colour stripper because your hair will be so porous and any dyes will come out darker.

Whoever mentioned how it works... when you apply a dye it deposits particles in your hair that sort of grow and turn your hair that colour. The colour b4 shrinks those colour particles back down and you wash them out. It's why the washing stage of the application is so important. If you don't rinse well you can leave particles behind which will grow again.

Glad you got your hair sorted skintchick.

  • I don't use any heat on my hair at all. I'm scared of colour removers, especially since my hair dresser said they really damage the hair.

I used a brand just called Colour Remover from Boots, it had a green box. I regularly straighten my hair with GHDs but it didn't seem to affect the result. And the stuff didn't smell that bad either.

I'm really happy. My hair is in good condition too so its a total result!

I use Boots Semi Perminent hair colour to blend in the grey - I usually pick golden blonde as it is lighter then my own colour but takes the 'sparkle' out of the grey.

This si what i've been thinking of doing - most of the semi-s leave my hair too dark. I've been growing my colour out and had lots of compliments on the gre but I'm not sure - I def like it lighter and was wondering if I used a blonde smei if it would just pick up on the grey but not the rest. Got ot be worth agof ro £3

I have had many hair dying distasters! Colour stripper is great! I did it before having the hair dresser kill my hair with bleach :( but it went a beautiful auburn colour - might actually do it again as I am brunette again and now in love with Jess Ennis' hair colour! xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.
  • Well tried crushed vit c tablets mixed with head & shoulders shampoo & the dye hasn't faded at all.

Might have to bite the bullet & get the decolour dye remover.
