Thanks for all your replies. My main concern with buying a part was that I wasn't entirely clear what fitted on what and exactly what had broken. I didnt want to buy the clip without knowing exactly what I was dealing with.

I've spent some time on it tonight and done a quick job with some cable ties, and wire. I have the clip on order! I needed to ensure I didn't have to take out the unit as I don't have the tools or skills to do that properly.

Thank you for all your advice/help and without you I would of ended up spending £100+ at the garage.

Clips on order, I now feel like a mechanic. :rotfl:

serious ? drive round with one wiper ? a few weeks ?

Not my personal choice, but when needs must..... It's no different to people who drive about on the space saver for a week until they get time to drop into crapfit to get [STRIKE]the flat fixed[/STRIKE] four new tyre's, a full exhaust system, new discs/pads and replacement shocks.

Well done OP, a bit of guidance (thanks sb) and a little gumption and you've found out cars aren't the scary things a lot of people would have you screaming to a main dealer for. (Incidentally, Porsche have the same fault but it will cost £900 to fix!)

Someone recently told me that if you pull the linkage off both sides and turn it around top to bottom. Then push it back on. It will stay on, because the wear is on a different part. This should last a fair while.
you just reminded me, you can zip tie the pivot together depending how how much it pivots

op take a pic and use imageshack to put it up here

I ran a car for about 4 years with the linkage held together with postie's red elastic bands. ;)

OP, until it's fixed, I suggest you drive around with a passenger, raincoats and some string. The string attaches to one wiper, goes in the driver's window, out the passenger's window and attaches to the other wiper. Your passenger can then 'operate' your wipers. Just be careful not to let the string run over the back of your hands, as it can hurt a bit. The raincoats are to keep you dry while the windows are open.

Anyone would think I'd had some experience of this :rotfl: It wasn't a Fiat though, so I'd recommend trying it out before you drive.
