The way I get round this is to shop on line.
I search for all the great bargains in my size and "buy" them all but I never check out.

I get the buzz of finding a bargain and "putting" it in my shopping basket but when i've closed the web page down I've not spent a penny and I know that I never really needed the stuff. :j

I love doing this too it really does take that strong urge I get to go and actually spend the money, but feel so self-satisfied when at yhe end of my shopping session delete everything in my "virtual" basket!!

The best way to save money is to only go shopping when you NEED something. Before buying anything ask yourself if you really need it - if you don't, just don't buy it. Done this for past 10 years and must have saved spending a huge amount of money.

Well done you - especially for being able to ask them to take it back instead of feeling guilty and just buying it anyway, as tends to happen by the time
    you get to the checkouts!

I was taught a very harsh lesson by my DH when we were newly married: I came back from a shopping trip with a very expensive and totally impractical video camera (this must have been more than 10 years ago, and we had no wee-ones: just 2 very old lazy cats) which I'd bought on the never-never. After 3 days of videoing the cats in front of the fire he made me take it back and explain to the shop assistant that the reason was that we couldn't afford it.... I really didn't think I would ever survive what I thought was the humiliation: but here I am!!

Glad I read this thread. Took my grand daughter 14 to Birmingham centre from Derby. Chose a car park where I know it is cheaper we just had to walk a little further. Paid for 4 hrs...this way she had to organise herself if she saw anything she liked. Finding her size was a problem as I insisted that she tried on before buying and to ignore the labels. We spent alot of money because she is going to 4 four weddings this year. Her mum was pleased I had spent this time giving her more time to shop for herself. My grand daughter bought lunch. I paid for the carpark and petrol. I had a lovely day shopping yet bought nothing. But I was left with the same feeling as though I had but with none of the guilt.

My SIL termed it de-shopping - and I agree: it is cool, and a VERY liberating experience. At the risk of annoying Mr Tesco (perish the thought!) I'd recommend everyone to try it at least once....
