The really annoying thing is when you have some vouchers and can't find anything you like. I've got £25 M & S and £80 Debenhams which I got as birthday presents in January. Now I've got the MSE bug I'm too fussy about what to spend my money on.:rotfl:0

I thought of you yesterday when I was in Morrisons. There was some veg reduced to 19p. I was saying to DH that we should get it and 'do something with it'. His reply was that we'd just had a delivery of fruit and veg from Farmaround that morning and we didn't need more, even if it was just 19p. And if we couldn't think of an actual something to do with it then we shouldn't get it.
I put it back, knowing he was right, thinking, 'I've just saved 19p!' It's not much but I'm getting the idea!:D :jMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I have just seen Martin has incuded a link to this thread in his weekly email.
I feel well chuffed:j
I am really glad you felt inspired to put that 19p veg back Gingham Ribbon.:)0 -
Hi
I love the sales and can't resist a bargain!
The way I get round this is to shop on line.
I search for all the great bargains in my size and "buy" them all but I never check out.
I get the buzz of finding a bargain and "putting" it in my shopping basket but when i've closed the web page down I've not spent a penny and I know that I never really needed the stuff. :j0 -
Well done on saving £53!!!! I went to the Marks Sale, and only picked up what I really did need - some new boots and some grey trousers - and luckily they came to EXACTLY the amount I had in vouchers so I was well happy!
I agree that it's spending £53 rather than saving £59!
Well done to you!

Two things to remember:
Most chain store vouchers are undated (check to be sure!) so you can always hold them until there's something you really need, or to buy gifts at no cost to yourself ("free" Easter eggs, maybe?)
M & S vouchers can always be used for food, which will stretch the household budget, and if you take advantage of BOGOF and other "multiple buy" promotions, it can really help when in a financial tight spot
Well done for resisting the temptation to "waste" your vouchers on things you don't need :A0 -
Thank you for letting me know there is a sale on! I have £50 to spend from the benefits office to buy new clothes for work. Now I know where to get them fromOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Well we got loads of M&S vouchers when we got married in 2002. It came to a few hundred pounds.
They have been very handy in the five years since, buying a new cutlery set when needed and new towels etc. We have spent the last of the vouchers in the last few months to buy some clothing for our daughter who wasn't even a twinkle in the stars when we got married!!I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!
I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!0 -
:j I aplaud janthemum for her determination.
I'm new to posting, so I hope this is the right place for it :
Another money saver for those of us over 50 comes from Life Insurance companies that offer incentives (e.g. Sun Life AXA - £30 of shopping vouchers - M&S, Argos etc) for schemes where they take your money by Direct Debit and send you the vouchers after they have received your first month's payment (£6 - £8); you cancel the Direct Debit after the first payment has been taken, leaving you £24 - £26 better off. If your partner is also over 50, make £50!
Once you are on their books, you keep getting the offers - over the last 5 years we have had 4 free DVD players, two Hi-Fi sets and about £300 of vouchers, at a total cost of about £110.
Caveat: Liverpool Victoria may attempt to take payments even after you have cancelled the DD, so be on your toes.0
