Hi -
To cut a long story short, my credit card provider has initiated a chargeback against a merchant for a charge made under duress. Quick question, how long would you usually expect the chargeback to take and for the money to be back in my credit card account?

I've never known a chargeback be actioned for a payment made "under duress" what do you mean exactly ?
Usually once a chargeback is actioned, the credit shows straight away but the retailer can reject it at a later date.0 -

It's not for the retailer to reject it though, is it? It's the merchant acquirer I believe. In certain industries, the acquirer states that they will always accept a chargeback - usually contentious industries such as parking enforcement, etc.
The payment under duress was for a clamping fine. Seems to be the easiest way to get your money back from these thieves currently.0 -
My understanding is that the retailers bank can dispute it and they have 45 days to do so. However the onus of proof is on the retailers bank to prove why the chargeback is wrong rather than the the consumers bank to prove it's right.but the retailer can reject it at a later date
The "how long" question is difficult to answer because it will depend on the card companies resourcing. Claims will sit in a queue until someone is available to process them. If the department is behind or has had a lot of sickness then it will take longer.
I did one earlier in the year with Capital one which took about 1 month, but they did write me a letter to say the other bank had 45 days to dispute, so the money could be taken back.

Once the chargeback is actioned, the retailers bank receives a debit for the amount of the dispute. They then advise the retailer that a dispute has been raised.The retailer then has the opportunity to state their case as to why they feel the amount was correctly charged and this information is passed back to the retailers bank. Once their bank has received this, it is forwarded to the OP's bank.
What the retailer says if they reject the chargeback will depend on whether the credit stays on the OP's account. It may be accepted or it may be rejected. A refund is never guaranteed when a dispute is raised.0 -
your also opening your self up for a court case, as you made the payment for parking breachDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

As many companies operate on the margins of the law, I'm not sure that's a huge risk,0 -
