Why the everyday make-up?

I'm sorry if I didn't make it very clear. I meant that once a container of say face cream has been opened you should try and used it up within a year.
If it has not been opened and the seal is still intact then it should be ok for quite some time.
If you want to preserve the life of creams and potions keep them in the dark, not on a sunny windowsill. The sun will turn them rancid very quickly. Same with perfume.
If you know you are not going to use them for a long time, keep them in the fridge. Yes, seriously. Once a container has been opened, it comes into contact with normal every day bacteria and this will reduce a product's safe shelf life.
Technically you should not dip your fingers into a container when applying product - your fingers are loaded with bacteria - you should use a spatula. It's generally ok for your own personal use but not if you are sharing pots of cream around.
This is a good test to spot a good therapist and a hygienic salon. If she dips her fingers into the pot of cream that's a good indicator that hygiene is not high on her agenda. She should also wash her hands before touching your face.
Re the mascara - it isn't just that they dry out but that the bacteria can multiply very quickly. Eyes are very delicate and for the sake of a few pounds it's really not worth the risk of a serious eye infection - hence the not sharing mascara brushes.
By the way you should never "pump" the brush up and down in the mascara tube either, it introduces a lot of air into the container. The oxygen will cause the contents to oxidise and go off more quickly. The introduction of air will also speed up the drying out process.
I think lippy has a longer shelf life than moisturisers and would probably be perfectly safe for years. You might find that the ingredients will eventually start to destabilise and separate after a while. Same with foundation. Powder based cosmetics, eyeshadows, blushers, face powder last for a very long time so you can ignore the 1 year rule for those.
The real ones to watch are face creams, i.e. moisturisers, night creams, eye creams and mascaras.
Hope that helps - trying to be as MSE as possible whilst maintaining safety standards.0 -
Probably:o
If I noticed, I might not notice.
I think make-up is part of grooming - but thats how it is to me & we are all different.
I guess it all comes down to different perceptions of what 'well groomed' means. To me, it simply means having a nice outfit on, being clean and having your hair tidy. I simply view makeup/jewelry and other such adornments as 'optional extras' that you put on if you want to and skip if you don't - I don't attach any importance to it.
I'd honestly feel a bit upset if I was aware that someone was regarding me with disapproval at a formal event on the basis that they'd noticed I wasn't wearing makeup. I wouldn't understand why their choice to wear makeup equated to me not making much of an effort.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

I think it works both ways. "why don't you wear make up"....."why do you wear make up?"
I wear it cos I like it. I may be a mum of 3 but I wore make up before I had the kids. I still do - every day even if I don't leave the house. I am mum, I am a wife and I am me.
I also have polished nails - feet & hands.0 -
I've always worn a bit as it made me feel more attractive. Then I got ill & couldn't wear any cus it don't stay on
Now I wear it to make the best of myself as I have mature skin, plus I only have one & a half eye brows (not grown back yet) so I pencil it in. I win loads of the best stuff on here too, so I'm able to try it all out.

Well I don't wear make up through the day cause basically I cba lol I know I look better with it so do make the effort on a night out. I think everyone had their own opinions and the way they do things, my mum used to wear make up everyday when I was younger and I kind of expected to follow her but I never did its just personal choice really. I don't think I'd feel right with make up on through the day for other people the reverse is true!Mummy to two beautiful girls and one gorgeous boy.0

Brushing your teeth is necessary to your health, but makeup is simply cosmetic... I'm interested as to why you would consider your makeup as important as your health? Genuinely interested, it's an alien concept to me.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. God I can't be bothered with make up every day. Far too lazy, and don't like how it feels on my skin tbh. Plus, especially in summer, I get itchy eyes - if I forget I'm wearing make up, I rub them and then turn into a Panda! lol
So, most days, I don't bother with it. I might look worse without it, but I don't care.
But........there are times when I feel less confident/attractive without it, so I always wear it for nights out & work meetings. Or when I am meeting some new friends of the OH (I have no idea why that should matter, but it does). And then, of course, there are days when Mount Vesuvius is erupting on my face and I feel the need to cover it up. Or one of those blasted mossies has bitten me the face. Grrrrrr.
I don't begrudge anyone else who wears make up every day though. My sisters do it. I don't think they need to, but they feel better with a little blusher and mascara etc.
I do think some women wear too much though. I know it's their choice, but sometimes a little less would actually accentuate their best features more. It's hard to see how beautiful someone's eyes are when they covered in so much eyeliner and mascara.February wins: Theatre tickets0
