No I am not.
If rules are there to be used why not use them?0 -
Thank you for your helpful and kindly advice. I knew I was asking in the right place for clarification of rules.
Except Flyboy152 and arcon5, of course, as I do not appreciate being accused of not paying my way or trying to avoid any legal responsibilities.
why does buying a car that was used previosly by a disabled person, suddenly make you look at a way to get £0 cost tax discs0 -

Because the way you want to use them is what most conscionable people would call cheating. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Because it was suggested to me by the garage owner (incorrectly as it has it turned out) that, if we use the car to transport my disabled mother in law, which we do often, we may qualify for some financial help by way of an exemption from the annual UK road tax charge.
Why do some people seem to have so much difficulty in understanding that I am only trying to find out something.
I didn't know I was here to explain myself so I won't be doing so any longer.0 -

good for you. however having bought multiple cars with disabled tax (and going through hassle of changing tax status)
It never once occured to me to suddenly look for a way to work the system.
Though I do know a few(genuinly) disabled folks,perhaps I have a skewed view on things.....0 -
Flyboy152 you know nothing about my personal situation and I resent your accusation.
My mother in law DOES live with us and has done so for several years now as she is unable to cope or look after herself unaided after suffering various illnesses, one of which almost killed her.
Like many senior citizens she takes a host of medications including warfarin to try and stablise her heartbeat.
We drive her to a major London hospital on an almost weekly basis for many medical check ups not to mention other journeys she cannot undertake on her own any longer as she is too frail. Such trips include frequent visits to a chemist to obtain prescribed medication.
The garage owner to whom I referred earlier is a long standing family friend and he knows our situation personally. That was why he made the suggestion to us about possible financial assistance.
As I said earlier I didn't know I was here to explain myself but I could not let your utterly false accusation pass by unanswered.
You are being reported to the moderators. I will not accept such slanderous remarks.
I thought this would he a helpful discussion on a site where I have respected other members' views for many years. Make no mistake I shall be more circumspect in future.0 -

Why then did he ask?
The garage where we bought the car asked if I - or anyone in the family - was disabled.
Doesn't sound like someone who knows you that well. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
He has known the family for many years and realises we are all fit except for my mother in law whom he suspected MAY be disabled.
However, he is most polite, especially where elderly people are involved, and he doesn't assume anything.
That was why he ASKED whether anyone in the family was disabled before making his suggestion.
Does that help clarify the situation for you?0 -
Did you buy the car solely for the disabled relatives benefit or because you wanted a new car an now think there's a way of using the system in a way it was not intended for personal gain?
Because your post screams the latter. You've got a nice new car, realise your mum is registered disabled and now thought 'wait a minute.. I can make this work'0 -
