Aren't manufacturer's warranties typically 1st owner only (with a few exceptions like corrosion)? Thus any warranty for a 2nd hand car is whatever the seller offers.

    No.

I've just checked - the service book for my ce'ed has a large '7 year warranty' logo on the front, so that's the place to check when you buy the car.

Out of interest what's covered ? Is it like a normal three year warranty or are there limitations after the first three years.

One thing. It won't have any warranty unless it has a full service history at a Kia dealer (and before you all say it, yes I know the rules regarding servicing elsewhere but I reckon they would duck it if it suited them)

They may try, but they can't duck it. As long as the vehicle has been serviced per the manufacturer guidelines using approved parts then it doesn't matter who did the servicing.

You say that, but you would have to prove it and if you are second owner I would think you would struggle.

How would they "duck it if it suited them?"

It would be the manufacturer who would have to prove that the servicing schedule hadn't been adhered to, not the owner proving that it had.

    Utter nonsense.

If they have no record of it on the dealer system and you have no record of a "proper" service history they will tell you to get lost.

Also if they go through the receipts and find anything out of order they could decline the warranty.

I can't see you wandering in to your dealer and saying I have had it serviced to manufacturer specifications and they say OK that's fine we'll just fit the new cambelt and rebuild the top half of the engine for you!!

They do the same if you HAVE had it serviced at a main dealer.

They are obliged to meet the warranty terms as laid out at point of purchase.

This is why the new vauxhall warranty is very clever. It doesn't require main dealer servicing, but it does require an annual check, which can only be done by a main dealer.

These car people, they ain't stupid you know...
