Falsely Advertised Used Car

I'm in the process of buying a 2009 Kia Ceed. The car is advertised as having a 7 year warranty from new which leaves 4 years warranty. I queried the warranty at the time as I read Kia only recently upgraded their warranty's from 5 to 7 years. The salesman got back to me a few days later and assured me it definitely has 4 years warranty left.
This evening while browsing through the Kia website I read the 7 year warranty's only came in to effect from January 2010. The car I'm supposedly buying was registered in June 2009.
Now I'm pretty peeved about this. The warranty was one of the pivotal reasons I went for the car. I've already arranged finance and I'm due to collect the car on Tuesday. To make matters worse my MOT and tax on my existing car expires on Wednesday. I was planning on putting it in my garage until I had time to sort this. Now it looks like the deal will fall through and I'm left without a car.
Is there any action I can take against the dealer? What if I didn't say anything and bought the car. Can I use the advertisement to force them to pay out of their own pocket to upgrade the warranty to 4 years or am I better walking away but making an official complaint?
What would you do?

In reality, there's not a lot that can be done, however the thing that I would consider doing is moaning at Head Office regarding the problem.
Was the salesman's representation of the car enough to purposely make you buy that model? If so, then Kia may up the warranty just to keep a customer (it's worth dealers doing, seriously!), although something that I will mention is that one of our employees has run a Ceed on a '58' plate to 194,000 miles with no problems at all, so I can't see you having a problem with the car. We also had about 6 Sedonas at one point, and they all did 200k+ with no serious issues.
Talk with the dealer before you do anything. I think that my aim in this situation for the dealer to rectify would be a couple of years' servicing for nothing (not going mental, of course), and a guarantee that it would get through the next MoT (although for this, you'll probably have to do it through them).
Come to an agreement that suits you both, as you obviously want the car.

Get the warranty details in writing!0 -
Aren't manufacturer's warranties typically 1st owner only (with a few exceptions like corrosion)? Thus any warranty for a 2nd hand car is whatever the seller offers.0

All ce'ed models have a 7 year warranty. In 2010 they put the 7 year warranty on the rest of the range. The page on Kia's website is unclear, thought it does day "When we launched the Kia cee'd and the European-produced Sportage, we completely revolutionised the warranty. These models are guaranteed for an incredible seven years"

I bought a ce'ed in September 2009 and it has the 7 year warranty.0 -

OP, other than information you've got from the website have you actually any proof that your specific car doesn't come with the remainder of a 7 year warranty. I think you have to establish the facts first before jumping the gun and posting about false advertising and taking action against the dealer.0 -
When I bought my 2nd hand car (6 month old megane), I checked with Renault and was informed that that the warranty belongs to the vehicle and not the owner. I therefore did not have to take any action to transfer it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Would like to say exactly the same thing. The Kia Ceed has always come with a 7 year warranty. So a 2009 Kia Ceed would still have 4 years warranty left on it.
Kia Introduced the 7 year warranty across the entire range later.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -

If the car is from a Kia dealer, they maybe extending the warranty. From what I can remember, there was a dealer provided warranty available to add on, to make it up to the seven years, on nearly new cars, at the time.
Failing that, get everything writing before you go to pick up the car.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
