I have said this before and it wasnt taken up on.
The op Says he is only £30/40 (I dont remember) but I wish he would come back on with actual truthful figures.
Its amazing how many people come on to the boards and say I only get £60odd pound a week, how can I live on that, when in reality they are getting housing benefit, income support, help with this, help with that, DLA, premium payments.
People are under playing their incomes and expecting, well to be honest I dont know what they are expecting, but I wish people were honest, only then can we give meaningful advice.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I couldn't care less how much your business brings in. I'm sick of your attitude.
Cheers for the education by the way

This is a disgusting comment. Pure jealousy because somebody is earning more than you. How childish.
Maybe if more of the country got off their backsides they could be in the same position. But oh no, why bother when you can get it all handed to you on a plate?!
Everybody has struggled at some point. Those who haven't, well they are very lucky but someone, somewhere down the line, has worked hard for what they have.
OP clearly wouldn't last 5 minutes in the job anyway, I'm starting to think he shouldn't even be wasting their time.
I thought this forum was about money saving, not money grabbing.
easy tiger, you may not agree with the comments but calling it disgusting is getting a bit carried away.
If she is earning £700 a week good on her but it could stop her seeing what someone on £72 a week has to consider when taking a low paid job.0 -

I'm sorry if I offended you, but I fail to see why people think that they themselves can also be earning £700 a week when they're doing eff all about getting a job in the first place?
From the sounds of it Princessdom didn't have her current job land at her feet with no effort.

I agree I've seen it too but in this case I don't think it applies, as the OP seems to be single, thinking of taking a job in a gym so can't be on DLA (well it has been known;)) so cant see him being on any other benefits, he did say his rent was paid, the job is min wage so I think it fair to take this guy's word for the figures.0 -

No cost except to buy the bike. Even if you took 1/3 off that £2080 it's still worth it and the savings made by not being at home probably cover it.
Plus the only way is up, he'll never earn less than that starting wage.0 -
My wages are neither here nor there. I have worked at mininum wage and would do again. In fact as I said I worked for under £1 an hour for a while (childcare removed).
I also supported Op in my first post to see where it got him (promotions, training, foot in the door etc). This kind of job isn't a "for ever and ever" - It's a opportunity to take what you can, grow, learn add to your CV and climb the ladder.
FWIW - The job I am now doing when I started was not more than NMW and as I said when childcare was removed was well well under NMW.
I can't see any reason for anyone advising someone to "decline their dream job" that can have so much potential because they get a similar amount on benefits.
If Op's wages were that low - he'd also get in work benefits too!
And to those who say that £71 pw is low - then surely given the fact I have made no secret that I could be on JSA next month - they won't even give me that as they are going to tax it!0 -
it's £30 not £40 and that is before travel costs, clothes fit for work and extra expenses working always brings. so the extra it would be earning would be £0 or in minus figures.
Man has evolved millions of years to do what is best for themselves, it is only the last maybe 50 years it is said to give you more self respect to work for the same or less that you can get on benefits, people need to wake up and see that telling people they are better of in work, no matter how little they are paid , has never worked and never will, the answer is easy, make work pay enough so benefits are not an option.
And for those thinking the Government will do this by reducing benefits to such a lvl work becomes an option, don't hold your breath as it took them all their time to set a £26k cap :rotfl: ,£36k you would have to earn to get that, which is around £500 a week, against the min wage of £220 net wage.
Maybe arguing for the impossible works for y
you but I prefer to argue for something that will fix the problem such as higher wages and rent controls.
I'm not arguing for the impossible. If you work at a gym which is a member of a group you will be provided with a uniform. If a second hand bike is bought the cost of getting to work is zero. You can get a brand new bike for about £150 even if you don't fancy a used one.0 -

Where you keep getting the wrong ideas from I don't know, you have went from disgusted to thinking you have offended someone when when neither have been the case, do you have a list of words you have to use no matter what has been said

perhaps when my hard earned tax money goes to people that desperatly need it like those people you slate on benefits looking for work with families instead of paying for people like you who dont desperatly need it and you made that choice to cost me i will lower my attitude , if you go to uni get someone else to pay for it0
