Hi debtmess, I did a little experiment (very sad of me:rotfl:) I read my elec and gas meters at the same time each week and input the reading on line to my provider so I can keep a check on it, but One week I did without the TV and noted the readings and the following week I went without my computer - my thinking was that these used the main bulk of the leccie - my computer didnt make that much difference (its a laptop and I recharge the battery when needed) but the TV used LOADS, so now I only watch the TV when theres a program on I want to watch and dont use the laptop whilst the TV is on, that was a habit I had, to have both on at the same time. I also cook by gas so thats cheaper, although I use a bread maker, MW, WM and halogen, I havent a TD or anything like that. I shut lights off when Im not in the room and dont have standbys on unless absolutely necessary and I only charge things up when necessary. My children have all left home now so theres only me here so its easy to keep things to a minimum but I do know its hard when you have children and they want to watch TV have their games on etc. On the gas front that only gets used for cooking at the moment, I havent had the heating on for ages so I use only one or less units a week obviously that will change in the winter but I have bought a ready supply of fleeces and things to hopefully keep me warm at a lower temperatures, the preparing for winter thread is really useful for hints on that, and everybody on here is so helpful and understanding. Its becoming second nature to me now and when my children visit (which is very much everyday - keeping an eye on mom!!) they accept my new found ways.
Have you all been on the recipe board here, on the grocery challange its has loads and loads of cheap and tried recipes for every occasion, and are very easy and tasty I have tried many of them and havent been disappointed yet, theres some very clever people on here!!!:)
