I've been lurking and reading for the first time today, what a lovely bunch you are.

I so agree with you about helping each other, I'm a great believer in karma

I'm lucky That I've got my grans old cookbook. Being on my own now I don't use it much, but it's a wonderful piece of social history showing the latest in kitchen equipment from the 1949s. Oh what I'd give to have grans old metal mincer...

regarding the mincer, i asked for one on freegle and was lucky , do you have a local freecycle or freegle ?

Hmm, rather annoyed with myself as i wasted some money a couple of days ago :(.....I was at work (volutary job) on my lunch break, ate a plum and had an anaphalactic attack, i had my epi pen with me but i didn't class this as one of my "full blown" attacks so as i didn't have my anti histimines on me my manager went out to get me some....£3 they cost me  BUT i got £1 of that back the next day when i took my mum to tesco and someone had left a pound in the trolly :D, on top of that i got told of by my daughter for not taking all my meds out with me but i suppose she has a point :o.
i'm in same boat so to speak, dont forget that foods that contain high levels of histamine , contain even higher levels when they are older and less fresh. so be careful when bargain hunting, please stay safe, boots sell own brand antihistamines that are relatively cheap, sometimes on a 3 for 2,

Ahh but it wouldn't be nanny's mincer;). Good idea though.

What I do have though is her old washboard. Considering the corrugated part of it is glass I'm rather surprised I still have it. She died when I was 15 I'm 53 now

How wonderful, before I owned a washing machine I had a washboard and used to scrub my late OHs collars and cuffs on it I paid 2/6d for it in 1962 when I got married and it was 1969 and two children later before I owned a washing machine (well twin tub) The last time I saw one on sale was in an antique shop in Rye and the chap wanted £35.00 for it :eek:self same type of one that I used to have with glass front and wooden surround with a slight ledge where the bar of green fairy soap rested when I was scrubbing :):)
    Well worth hanging onto
